Rylan Long and Steve Clancy Increase ULMA Win Totals While Justin Russell Grabs First of Year!

by Sam Stoecklin
Rylan Long and Steve Clancy increased their Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce season win totals during last weekend’s race action at Lucas Oil Speedway and Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) respectively while Justin Russell claimed his first win of the season at Callaway Raceway.  For Long, it was his association-leading ninth win of the season as he wrapped up the Lucas Oil Speedway championship.  Clancy snared his track-leading seventh CMS win.  As a result of their wins, both drivers kept their title hopes alive should they choose to run for the title against Jake Griffin and Jason Bodenhamer.

Last weekend’s action started at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri, with 16 drivers on hand, 12 of which were ULMA members.  When the checkered flag flew on the late model action, it was rookie Justin Russell claiming his first-ever ULMA win.  His previous best was second place on four occasions this year.  Russell had to fight off a hard-charging Jason Bodenhamer who finished second with Bob Test coming home third.  Jake Griffin was fourth with Zeke Langley, Brett Wood, Chris Cox, Trace Westling, and James Stafford also registering top-ten finishes.  The track will be in action again this Friday, September 9th and ULMA points will be awarded, for more information head over to the track’s website at www.callawayraceways.com.

Scotland County Speedway was not in action due to a rain out last week and as previously scheduled will not be racing this weekend.  ULMA will award points during the following additional races at the speedway:  Saturday September 17th, Saturday September 24th, and Friday September 30th.  For detailed information visit the track’s official website at www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com.

From the post-race press release by Lucas Oil Speedway:  “Rylan Long secured the points Championship and the feature win Saturday in the ULMA Late Models.  Long added the 2011 Championship to two previous season titles at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks.  Long from Greenfield, MO started and finished the race from the top spot.  Tommy Cordray from Browning, MO gave it his all Saturday night.  Cordray started the feature in 11th and worked his way forward to finish second.  Long and Cordray have been exciting to watch all season and it is fitting the two top contenders finish the season first and second in points.  Larry Jones started the final feature of the night in 10th and had a solid fifth place finish.  Jones finished the season fourth in points just behind Chris Hawkins from Neosho, MO. Andy Kennedy from Wheatland, MO finished the season fifth.”  The season for ULMA is now complete at Lucas Oil Speedway. There were 16 cars on hand with 10 ULMA members present. Visit the track’s official website by logging onto www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

At CMS Saturday, rain came down after the heat races were completed so drivers returned the following night to settle up on the weekly program. There were 13 drivers on hand with 11 ULMA members present. Steve Clancy started up front and never looked back as he drove to his seventh feature win at this season. Kevin Coyne came from the ninth starting position to post a solid second, one spot ahead of non-ULMA member Lane Ehlert in third. Jason Bodenhamer, Brett Wood, and James Stafford rounded out the top six in the final rundown. CMS is back in action for its final weekly program of the year this Saturday, September 10th.  Homes for our Troops will be on hand to raise funds for returning war veterans at the track this weekend with the help of drivers passing their helmets through the grandstands. The track has waived its registration fee for the rest of the season. Visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net for remaining event details.   The ULMA silent auction raised and extra $600, which will be distributed throughout the purse for the Saturday, October 1st ULMA race at CMS. ULMA wishes to thank Jason Bodenhamer, Kevin Coyne, Team Clancy, Brett Wood, Jon Binning, and Westling Racing for donating auction items.

The Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA point’s-earning season runs through October with the last two races taking place on Saturday, October 1st at CMS and Sunday, October 2nd at 24 Raceway in Moberly.  Both races will feature additional purse money!  The final ULMA race of the year at Moberly will see the winner take home $1,000 for the victory!
