William Thomas Records Pair of Top Five Finishesby Ben Shelton
Phenix City, Alabama (08/24/11) - William Thomas entered a pair of events over the weekend in his #22 Extreme Power Sports/Mastersbilt/Lamar Hunt Racing Engine Super Late Model and came away with a pair of top five finishes to show for his efforts.
Friday night found William in action at Green Valley Speedway (Glencoe, Alabama) for a $2,000-to-win, PRO Dirt Car Series Super Late Model event. Thirty-five cars entered the event and after qualifying second fastest in his group, Thomas earned the third starting spot for the main event. He would advance to the second spot on lap 10, when second place runner, Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, spun from contention. He would pursue Knowles for the next 24 laps until the leader slowed on lap 34. Thomas would lead the next lap before Jason Hiett raced past him for the top spot. William would chase Hiett for the next six laps before recording a second place finish at the checkered flag.
The team resumed action with the Southern All Stars Super Late Model Series on Saturday night as the tour invaded Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) for the annual Jean Johnson Memorial, which posted a $5,000 winner's check. With 32 cars entered Thomas would qualify for the second starting spot for the feature alongside pole-sitter, Skip Arp, via preliminary action. In the main event, Thomas would race his way to a fourth place finish behind race winner, Chris Madden, Billy Ogle Jr., and Skip Arp. With the top five finish William continues to lead the Southern All Stars tour standings as well as the series' Rookie of the Year point's battle.

The upcoming weekend will see William in action in a single event as he enters the Jerry Goodwin Challenge, which will pay $2,200-to-win for Super Late Models at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) on Saturday night. Earlier this month, Thomas claimed the biggest Super Late Model win of his career at the facility in the 14th Annual Michael Head Jr. Memorial.
