Bub McCool Honored for Charity Work; Topless 100 Next

by Ben Shelton
Vicksburg, MS (08/18/11) – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competitor, Bub McCool, took his #57J McCool Logging/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model into battle last weekend in the 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels Topless 100 at Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky).

Bub entered the 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 at Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky) over the course of last weekend. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event drew a field of 74 Super Late Models, and in Friday night's time trial session Bub qualified tenth fastest in his group to earn the fourth starting spot for his heat race on Saturday night.

Saturday night's festivities saw a lengthy delay due to early evening showers. Prior to the rains the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame (NDLMHoF) held their annual ceremony, which included special awards. Bub received the NDLMHoF Spirit Award for his fundraising efforts for the Smithville, Mississippi tornado victims as well as Mississippi-area hospitals.

Despite a late start due to the weather the show was finally able to move ahead, but Bub's luck would take a turn for the worst as a broken oil pump belt on the second lap of the heat sent him pit-side and forced him to utilize a provisional to start the 100 lap, $50,000-to-win event. After starting 24th he would advance eight spots to record a 16th place finish at the checkered flag.

This weekend, August 18th-20th, McCool continues his 2011 season as he goes into battle with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) in the 19th Annual COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas). The event kicks off with an Open Practice Session on Thursday night. Friday night will see time trials and heat race action contested, while Saturday night will be highlighted by b-mains and the 100 lap, $40,000-to-win finale.
