Deery Series returns to Cedar County Raceway for Aug. 2 showTIPTON, Iowa (August 2) – Fourteen years after its last trip to Tipton, the Deery Brothers Summer Series returns to Cedar County Raceway for a Tuesday, Aug. 2 show.
The IMCA Late Model tour main event will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start.
Second in the current point standings, defending champion Ray Guss Jr. won the first Deery race at Cedar County, held in 1996. Greg Kastli took the checkers the following season, when the series made its most recent visit to the ¼-mile dirt oval.
Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. with the first heat race set for 7 p.m.
Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and free for youngsters five and under. Pit passes are $25.
Like his closest challenger, point leader Andy Eckrich has some history at Cedar County, which is half an hour away from his home. He’s raced there a couple times and hotlapped on a guesstimated 10-15 occasions.
Eckrich and Brian Harris have each won twice through the first 11 events of the silver anniversary series.
One-time winners are Matt Ryan, Matt Bailey, Mike Murphy Jr., Jeff Aikey, Terry Neal, Guss and, most recently, Nate Beuseling.
Beuseling, Ryan, Bailey and Murphy have all taken career-first Deery checkers in 2011.
