Major announcement opens night at Tyler County MIDDLEBOURNE, W.V. (July 30) This past week another track was forced to close it’s gates. Tri City Speedway in Franklin Pennsylvania is the latest causality. Canceling the remainder of their season including the annual Oil City Labor Day Classic. That in turn left an open date for the World of Outlaw Late Models. The 2nd annual Black Diamond 125 will now be run under the joint banner of the WoO and Circle Track Management. With more details to follow later in the week.
After the huge announcement the fans were primed for some hot action on the ¼ mile, and it began in the Dodd’s Sporting Goods Late Models. Paul Wilmoth Jr., Steve Wilmoth, Scott Irvin and Matt Mallett grabbed prelim honors. Steve Weigle notched the consey win. When the field came to the green, Paul out ran younger brother Steve to turn one for the lead. Mallett, Irvin and Tyler Carpenter followed the brothers. Two quick yellows on laps two and three slowed the race. With P. Wilmoth stretching out his lead, ninth starting Butch McGill motored to fourth on lap five and onto third on lap six. McGill and S. Wilmoth began to duel for the second spot and after some contact on lap 14, McGill secured the spot. Tenth starting Jacob Hawkins had passed his way to third by the next circuit. P. Wilmoth began to slice his way through the backmarkers as laps clicked off. McGill was able to close in on Wilmoth but was not able to make a bid for the spot. Wilmoth driving the Adkins Timber / Backyard Auto Body #B1 collected his class leading fifth win. McGill, Hawkins, Carpenter, and S. Wilmoth were second through fifth.
For the third time Derek Doll put his Perkins Supply / Cell Accessories #87 machine on the point at the drop of the green and would stay there wire to wire. It was Doll’s fifth overall victory in the United Rental Industrial Division FASTRAK Late Models. In the closing laps Shaun Jett, Kyle Thomas, Daniel Hill, and Danny Thomas narrowed the gap with help from lapped traffic but could not catch Doll.
In the Bridgeport Equipment & Tool Modifieds, Mike Wilson spanked the field for three weeks in a row earlier in the season leading every lap in the features. The last five weeks he had finished behind the Dickson’s. This week “Bird” flew to the front from his pole starting spot and lead wire to wire to snare his fourth checkerboard. Travis Dickson made a late charge but came up just a little short and finished second. Matt Holcomb rallied from tenth to finish third. Del Cunningham and Tommy Powell filled out the top five.
After the third try at green the Herrington Yoak Ford and Pre Owned Auto Mod Lites saw Tracy Fritter snagged the point followed by Mitch Ward, Matt Hay, Alan Knepper and Zach Watson. Hay pressured Fritter until the half way mark as he made his move for the spot. With Hay now out front, Fritter pulled up lame on the restart of lap nine. Brandon Fluharty was credited with a caution at the outset and sent to the tail, began to work his way back. Fluharty was able to climb to second by lap 11. Fluharty dogged Hay for the remaining go rounds but came up short. Knepper would finish third, Beau Newlon fourth and Mitch Herrick was fifth.
Devin Verardi, driving the Wheeling Tire / Lisa’s Hair Um #58 would lead flag to flag in the Sigler Fabrication Hot Mods to add his fourth checkerboard. Kenny Isner would chase Verardi but had to settle for second. Travis Thomas, Lou Ennis, and Mike Conkle rounded out the top five.
David Bunnell was on a mission. He was driving for his Father Marshall who just passed away. Bunnell in the D & K Automotive / Frosty’s Pre Owned Auto #22F would accomplish his goal by taking his third Wells Inn / Champion Sport Cards & Trophies Eco Flyer 4 Cylinders. Donnie Wamsley, Justin Freeland, Josh Fulks, and Zack Jones completed the top five.
In an action packed and scary Outlaw Graphic and Automotive Service Mini Wedges, Hunter Partridge edged Wesley Baker for his second first place trophy. (sponsored by Steve Davis) Kaitlyn Frazier, Trey Watson, and Georgie Tennett were third through fifth.
In heat race action Josh Gump barrel rolled his kart, but luckily he was ok. Heat winners were Baker and Alec Frazier.
Tim and Brandi Carson presented trophies in full bodied classes.
This week at the Bullring it will be the inaugural Pat Herrick Memorial with $1,400 to win for the Dodd’s Sporting Goods Late Models. Plus Faster Pastor race & Hometown Hero Free Ohio Night local Pastors race 4-Cylinders! 4 cylinders driver that donates his car gets free pit pass!
