Wendell Wallace Scores $10,000 Summer Nationals Win at Clarksville; Prepares for Granite City and HarrisburgBATESVILLE, Ark. - The Wendell Wallace Autosports team started their July 8-9 weekend in the state of Mississippi and wound up in victory lane on Saturday night at the Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, Tennessee! After a sub par qualifying effort and heat race finish at the Magnolia Motor Speedway on Friday evening, Wendell Wallace stormed into Clarksville on Saturday for a UMP Summer Nationals showdown.
Wendell sported a fast racecar all night at the Volunteer State speedplant, as he laid down the quickest lap in his group during the qualifying session and later won his heat race. After drawing the inside second row starting spot prior to the beginning of the 40-lap main event, Wendell passed race leader Shannon Babb in lapped traffic on lap 17 and never looked back. The Batesville, Arkansas native recorded the $10,000 payday by beating Babb, Terry English, Kent Robinson, and Jack Sullivan to the checkers!
"We had 10,000 good reasons to make the decision to leave Magnolia and it paid off for us," commented Wallace after the Clarksville victory. "The car was good from the time we unloaded. We do a couple of different things setup-wise to the car at Clarksville and it seems to work pretty well there. I could race down low or through the middle, pretty much anywhere I needed to go, the car was up to the challenge. Hopefully, we can get on a little roll here and start running better in some of these bigger shows coming up!"
The #88 team will return to action from July 14-16 with events in the states of Illinois and Arkansas. On Thursday and Friday, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will sanction the inaugural running of the 'Battle of the Beach' at the Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois and a $20,000 top prize will be on the line. The action will quickly switch to the Northeast Arkansas Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas on Saturday evening for a $2,000 to win Comp Cams Super Dirt Series program.
