Mark Dowdy Racing Brings Home a Fourth Place Saturday July 2ndWaterloo, AL (07/06/2011)- Mark Dowdy, America’s first paralyzed dirt late model driver continues to set the bar higher each week with his program, this past weekend at Thunderhill Raceway Dowdy brought home a fourth place finish.
Saturday July 2nd started early for the Mark Dowdy Racing team, the team loaded up bright and early and headed to the Auto Zone in Lawrenceburg, TN for a car show to put the Pittman Dutton & Hellums Law Firm, JPM Promotions, FK Rod Ends, Wix Filters, Jason M. Neely Race to Cure Parkinson’s, Warrior race car on display, along with several other race cars to give folks a up close perspective of what a dirt late model looks like. The team had several folks commend the team’s car and was intrigued with Dowdy’s ability to still race and wheel a high profile race car.
After the car show the team head north to Thunderhill Raceway for some Saturday night dirt slinging action.
Dowdy would lay down a 13.150 second lap time, Fourth overall amongst the 13 car field. This set Dowdy up to start fourth on the grid for the 20 lap feature. When feature time rolled around, Dowdy was ready to get to it. As the green flag dropped going into turn one and two, Dowdy and the #17 of Blake Ray touched causing both cars to get out of shape and spin. Dowdy was able to continue receiving no damage from the incident. A complete restart was called and the field was bunched back up to double file. The green flag waved and Dowdy was quick to the gas, exiting turn two in the third position. Dowdy would hold down the third spot while holding off the #54 of AJ Ferguson for the first four laps before Dowdy’s Warrior race car pushed up out of the groove in turn one, losing the third position to Ferguson. Dowdy gathered it up and remained in the fourth position before first caution waved for a spun car on the speedway on lap five. On the next restart Dowdy rode in the fourth spot, the car developed a push but Dowdy was able to maintain his fourth position. A caution would wave on the next lap for a spun car. The field came back to the green flag and Dowdy’s Warrior chassis was pushing pretty hard in the turns, Dowdy would man handle the car while holding off the #85 of Mitch Thornton for the fourth spot. Two more cautions would wave throughout the 20 lap event, and Dowdy would earn a fourth place finish on the night, behind race winner Cody Springer.
Mark Dowdy Racing would like to give a special thanks to the Ferguson Family: Roger, Renee and AJ for their help they gave to the MDR team early Sunday morning for the repairs on the team’s hauler.
