Casebolt Racing Scores first win of the season and 5th place LOLMDS finishRICHMOND, IN (June 20, 2011) - Steve Casebolt and his Rockstar Energy/Makita race team had a very successful weekend. The team was scheduled to race to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events. The races were supposed to be at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC and Wythe Raceway in Wytheville, VA.
On Friday Steve and team traveled to South Carolina for the first time this season. A poor qualifying run unfortunately relegated the number C9 car to 7th starting position in their heat race. Steve advanced 2 positions in the heat and finished in 5th. The 5th place heat finish set up a front row starting spot for the B-Main.
Steve transferred to the main event through his consolation race by placing 2nd. When the green flag flew for the main event Steve immediately began his charge forward. With the help of some key restarts and a savvy tire choice Steve steered his Rockstar Energy/Makita car to the 5th position by the race's end.
"I was very happy to have gotten a top 5 out of our race at Gaffney. When we arrived at the track I went over some notes and realized that I had never made a main event at Gaffney without the help of a provisional. However, I knew that if we could just make the main event we would have a car capable of moving forward and having a strong run. We then qualified for the main event on our own and had a strong top five finish. We considered this a success considering our poor track record there", stated Steve.
On Saturday the team traveled to Wytheville, VA. After arriving at the track and getting prepared to race the LOLMDS sanctioned event the rains came. The event was cancelled and the team headed home. After some phone calls and quick decision-making they changed the route to Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio.
The team arrived at Portsmouth late and didn't get any hot laps. Fortunately the guys did get the car unloaded in time to qualify and they performed well. Steve qualified 3rd out of the 29 car field. Steve then finished 3rd in the six lap dash which set up a 3rd place feature starting position.
When the dust settled on the main event Steve found himself victorious for the first time in the 2011 season. Steve raced extremely hard with fellow competitor Eddie Carrier Jr. The two cars had a spirited battle for the lead among lapped traffic on several different occasions with the lead being swapped a couple of times.
"We had a great time going to Portsmouth and getting a win. It's always fun to race against tough competition and still come out on top. Portsmouth is one of my favorite places to go and this will definitely give me some needed practice for the upcoming Lucas race there"
The team isn't sure where they will race this week yet but plans will be made soon. For the most up to date race information on Steve Casebolt, visit
