Casebolt Racing has strong performance in front of CBS CamerasRICHMOND, IN (May 31) - Casebolt Racing turned in their strongest weekend of the early 2011 season this passed weekend. Steve drove the Rockstar/Makita car to a very impressive 3rd place finish at Forest Lucas's Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland Missouri for the DART Show Me 100. The team also traveled to Eldora Speedway's Memorial Day event where the Steve captured the runner up position.
The 19th Annual DART Show Me 100 marked the first time that a dirt late model event will ever be aired on CBS. "The DART Show Me 100 being on CBS is one of the coolest thing that has happened to our sport since I have been involved in it. For something that I am a part of to be broadcast over such a huge stage is just amazing. I am thrilled to have been a part of it and happy that I had a strong run for my sponsors and team".
The team actually started the weekend off a little slow. On Friday evening Steve posted just the 24th fastest qualifying time out of the 40 cars in his group. Unfortunately this was only good enough for the 8th starting position in the 6th heat race. With a slick move on the first corner of the race Steve advanced all the way from the 8th position to third very quickly.
Steve eventually finished in the 3rd and final transfer spot for Saturday's main event. Steve's exceptional heat race performance allowed the team to start in the 18th starting position of the 30 car field. "With 81 cars on hand your primary focus has to first be making it into the main event. There were a lot of good cars here that didn't make it into the finals and we were glad we weren't one of them," said Steve
When the feature started Steve immediately began his march forward. Progress was a little slow in the beginning but the longer the race went on the better things got. A mid race restart where Steve had contact with another competitor was one of the only times that the black number c9 lost a position all weekend.
As the laps wore down business picked up for the Rockstar/Makita car. Steve passed 15 cars to advance all the way to the 3rd position by the end of the event. Steve passed Brian Birkhofer for third but didn't quite have enough time to get a chance to race with eventual winner Jimmy Owens or 2nd place finisher Scott Bloomquist.
"I wish we hadn't lost those positions mid race and that we could have continued our march forward. If we could have gotten to the front sooner we may have been able to race with Scott and Jimmy some before the race ended. However we are thrilled with third and just glad that maybe the season has turned around a little bit for us."
After getting a podium finish and being interviewed by the CBS cameras Steve and team headed to Eldora Speedway's Memorial Day event. Steve qualified 4th overall out of the 42 car field and started 3rd in his heat race.
Steve and team completed the heat in 2nd position, which would allow them to draw a front row outside starting spot for the main event. After the 25 lapper Steve found himself in the 2nd position for his 2nd top 3 finish of the weekend. "We were happy to go to Eldora and get some laps in before the Dream 100 coming up in a few weeks. We were also close to getting a win at Eldora too, so that was fun".
The Rockstar/Makita team will travel to Cleveland, TN, Tazewell, TN and Florence, KY this coming weekend to compete in 3 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events.
