NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR MAY 23CARTERSVILLE, GA – After Week 8 of the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season, Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS continues to lead the West Region standings and Jimmy Elkins Jr. of Talladega, AL remains on top of the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings. Four drivers posted their third wins of the season, and two drivers got their first wins of the season.
McDuffie, the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion, took a third-place finish on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS and now has a West Region leading total of 364 points based on three wins, six top five finishes and seven top ten finishes in seven starts driving the H.E. Mosley, Inc. Trak-Star.
Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS grabbed his first win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS driving the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star. The win moved Arnold up to the second spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 358 points. Arnold has one win, eight top fives and 10 top tens in ten starts.
Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS used his sixth top five finish of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park to move up to tie for the third spot in the West Region standings with Landon Frith of Terry, MS. Each driver has 335 points. Randy Boyd of Marion, MS is tied for the fifth spot in the West Region standings with Tony Lawson of Laurel, MS.
Boyd and Lawson each have 334 points. Lawson picked up 25 bonus points by competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS is seventh with 331 points and Wiley Williams of Stonewall, MS is eighth in the West Region standings with 328 points.
Tim Dees of Meridian, MS is ninth with 318 points, and Justin McRee of Tuscaloosa, AL rounds out the top ten in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 315 points. McRee drove the Century Dedicated, Inc. Trak-Star to his third win of the season on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Week 8 action, Duke Palasini of Leland, MS drove the Palasini Farms Special to his third straight win of the season on Saturday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS.
Chandler Petty of Austin, AR drove the Whistle Stop Barbeque Rocket to his third win of the season on Saturday night at Drew County Speedway in Monticello, AR. Friday night NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region competition at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO was rained out for the sixth straight week.
Elkins used 25 bonus points earned at the Penton Raceway NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event on Friday night to extend his point lead in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings over Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL to 30 points. Elkins has 451 points after driving the ADP Special to two wins and six top fives in nine starts.
Gauldin has 421 points after one win, six top fives and nine top tens in nine starts driving the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT. Gauldin has an eight point advantage over Mike Combs of Odenville, AL and Brian Ponder of Talladega, AL, who are tied for the third spot in the Old Man’s Garage (OMG) East Region standings. Each driver has 413 points.
Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL holds down the fifth spot in the OMG East Region standings with 332 points, and Josh Huss of Flomaton, AL is tied for the sixth spot with Chris Griffin of Flomaton, AL at 326 points apiece.
Griffin drove the Escambia County Bank Special to his first win of the season on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL. Doug Ludwig of Grantville, GA moved up to the eighth spot in the OMG East Region standings after earning 25 bonus points at the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Touring event on Saturday night at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA.
Brett Holmes of Eastaboga, AL is ninth with 316 points and Russ Ogletree of Phenix City, AL rounds out the top ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage East Region standings with 313 points. Ogletree did not compete during Week 8 competition and fell from fifth to tenth in the OMG East Region standings.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Old Man’s Garage East Region action, Tim Staples of Pell City, AL drove the Benton Nissan Rocket to his third and second straight win of the season on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
The defending and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion Trak-Star Race Cars built by Boland Performance of Cuba, AL picked up Week 8 wins by Arnold and McRee to bring their point leading total for the season up to 19 wins.
Three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge Champion GRT Race Cars of Greenbrier, AR remains in the second spot of the standings with 16 wins on the season. Rocket Chassis of Shinnston, WV picked up two wins in Week 8 competition from Petty and Staples to bring their third-place point total up to nine wins.
Also competing in the 2011 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Chassis Manufacturers Challenge and still looking for their first wins of the season are TNT Race Cars of Piney Flats, TN, Warrior Race Cars built by Goddard Performance of Knoxville, TN, and Stinger Race Cars built by J.T. Kerr Racing Equipment of Rockford, TN.
