Mike Pegher Jr., Wins Career First Super Late Model Feature Justin Lamb, Chris Basich, Jake Simmons, Robby Torrens, and Todd Weldon also win on NAPA, Free WV/OH Night at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway on May 21, 2011.
PITTSBURGH, PA - May 21, 2011 - Wexford PA's Mike Pegher Jr., won the Hoosier Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Model Feature, and picked up his first ever win in the class. Pegher, who was PPMS' 2008 Crate Late Model Champ, and a top runner at PPMS and other tracks in the Fastrak Series, made his first ever start at PPMS, in mentor and car owner Lynn Geisler's machine. After spinning in his heat, Pegher used an invert 12 start to get the outside front row starting spot, and took the lead off early leader John Mollick on lap 8 in the non- stop race, and led the remaining laps. Geisler however missed the event, as he was at Charlotte NC for a NASCAR race. With the heat front runners in the back, it made for some interesting racing, with Ben Miley working his way up from 5th to finish second, for his best run of the season, and with 12th starting Brandon Burgoon charging up to third. Mike Norris was a solid fourth, with John Flinner who started 10th ending up 5th, and Steve Baker getting 6th, followed by John Mollick, Jim Stephans, Mike Davis and Mike Johnson. Brandon Burgoon and Jim Stephans won the heats. Brandon Burgoon was the Awesome Hard Charger.
In the Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Late Models, current point leader Justin Lamb, Hopewell PA picked up his first win of the season and second career win at PPMS. Lamb who started 2nd, grabbed the lead from Colton Flinner on lap 2, and led the remaining laps to grab the win. Laura Lukon ran a great race to finish a close second, her best effort of the season, followed by Mike Reft, Flinner, defending track champ Mark Moats Jr. (who was making his first start of the season), Nico Dabecco, Tommy Schirnhofer, Rusty Cade, John Cain III, and Shane Weaver. Laura Lukon and Justin Lamb picked up the heat wins.
The Miley RV Service UMP Modifieds, Adena, OH's Chris Basich won his first win of the season. Basich, who started 2nd, took the lead on lap 3 from Rich Curry and held off J.E. Stalder and Bruce Takach to pick up the win. Curry ended up fourth followed by George Nicola, Tom Martineck, Kevin Miller, Vince Laboon, Denny Nakutis and Bill Yohe. J.E. Stalder also won the lone heat.
McKees Rocks PA's Jake Simmons won his second Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadet feature of the season in fine style. Simmons who has been the dominate force in the class for the past several seasons, came from the seventh starting spot to take the lead on lap 4 and hold of a fast Charlie DiLoreto to grab the win. Gary Koteles was a strong third followed by Craig Koteles, Nick Kocuba, Curt Bish, Brad Koteles, Josh Langer, Tyler Fox, and Mike Mohn. Charlie DiLoreto and Craig Koteles took the heat victories.
Robby Torrens, Kennedy Twp. PA grabbed his first win of the season in the Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks. Torrens started 8th and took over the lead on lap 3 and led the rest of the way. Ricky Steigerwald was a strong second followed by Ed Wiser, opening night winner Joe Podolinsky, Chase Evans, Richard Wilson, Adam Chytil, and Hannah Ramsey. Ricky Steigerwald grabbed the heat win.
The Imperial Heights Garage DIRTcar Young Guns saw Monongahela, PA's Todd Weldon picked up a career first win. Weldon started on the pole and held off Adam Carson, Bernie Blair Jr., Alec Broniszewski, Zack Stehle, and opening night winner Logan Crewl.
