By: Alex Cummings
The stars of the Carolina Clash ready for what will be a blockbuster double header weekend taking place. On Friday, April 15th, the Carolina Clash will roll into Cleveland County Speedway (CCS) in Lawndale, NC then on Saturday, April 16th, the Clash will head north up interstate 77 to Friendship Motor Speedway (FMS) in Elkin, NC. Both events will pay a nice $4,000 to win making a possible $8,000 weekend if one driver can win both nights. The Carolina Clash will also be presenting $2,000 in Contingency Awards each night to the drivers.

The current Carolina Clash points are the closest in the history of the organization with a tie for the points lead. Luke Roffers was able to place 3rd at Carolina Speedway and won two weeks ago at Fayetteville Motor Speedway while Mike Gault placed 2nd at Carolina Speedway along with being the hard charger and 3rd at Fayetteville Motor Speedway.

The first trip the Carolina Clash made to CCS in 2010 saw track records shattered and door to door racing for 40 laps with an impressive 31 cars in attendance. Chris Blackwell in his first appearance at CCS would set a new track record, breaking the old record by nearly 4 tenths of a second. During the feature event, Johnny Pursley would quickly make his way to the front and take over the lead utilizing his Clements power plant to propel him to a win. The fans were able to witness an impressive showing by both Jeff Smith and Jared Landers on the high side as both made their way to the front.

The Carolina Clash made its second trip of the year to CCS in August as fans saw a repeat showing with Johnny Pursley making a clean sweep, winning both events at CCS in 2010. During qualifying, Pursley, Dennis Franklin, and Ricky Weeks all broke the track record set in the spring. Pursley turned an astonishing 17.664 second lap time around the high banked, half mile at CCS which is an average of 102.27 mph. In a race that was most notably known for its long green flag runs, four drivers were able to advance at least 6 positions during the feature.

On Friday, April 15th gates will open at 4pm with the drivers meeting set for 7pm. The Carolina Clash will be competing for $4,000 to win along with $2,000 in contingency awards. Also competing on Friday evening will be CCS regular divisions including front wheel drives, pure stock V8, stock 4, and young guns.

In 2010, Ricky Weeks was able to sweep both races at Friendship Motor Speedway. The first Carolina Clash event was held at the end of May with Ricky Weeks setting fast time followed by Chris Meadows in 2nd. When the cars took to the track, Weeks set sail and wouldn't be caught again, winning the race with Chris Ferguson coming home in second. Third was Dan Breuer, fourth was Luke Roffers, and fifth was Dean Bowen.

In the second appearance for the Carolina Clash at FMS, fans saw one of the best finishes of the year. As the cars crossed the start/finish line to get the white flag, Weeks had about a half car lead over Franklin who made a last ditched effort to pass Weeks in turns 3 and 4 but was unable to make the move stick giving the win to Weeks. Dennis Franklin would cross the line in second followed by Jeff Smith still running the high side just inches away from the wall. Crossing the line in 4th was Jay Sessoms and 5th was Raymond Brown in his best finish with the Carolina Clash this season.

Along with the Carolina Clash, FMS will also be holding an NDRA Crate Late Model race paying $1,500 to win. Also on the racing card for the evening will be limited sportsman, super stock 4, renegades, and U-cars. Gates open at 3pm with the drivers meeting scheduled for 5pm.

Both race tracks produced some of the best side by side racing of the year and 2011 will be no different. Please make plans as the stars of the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series battle in a two night double header this weekend to see who can come out on top. Will it be Luke Roffers? Mike Gault? Or another Carolina Clash competitor? You'll have to be there to find out and watch the best super late model drivers in the southeast compete for the largest regional point fund in super late model racing. With the Carolina Clash, you buy the whole seat, but you'll only need the edge.

The Carolina Clash would like to announce the following Contingency Sponsors for the Cleveland County and Friendship Races:
- Comp Cams will be awarding the "Official Engine Builder of the Race Award" to the feature winner.
- Keizer Aluminum Wheels will be presenting an award for the 2nd place finisher in the feature.
