Chris Ferguson Takes a Pair of Top 5 Finishes; Bulls Gap Up Next ![](http://latemodelracer.com/photos/sas/22.gif)
Mt. Holly, North Carolina – Chris Ferguson and his Chris Ferguson Motorsports Race Team traveled to a pair of prestigious Carolina events during the past weekend. For their efforts the team racked up a pair of top 5 finishes and edged closer to the top of the point standings in two different regional touring series. Ferguson now sits in 2nd position in both the Ultimate Series and the Carolina Clash Series standings. “All in all we had a very good weekend. We had a shot at winning on Saturday and on Sunday we were very competitive with some of the best drivers in the country. Our new Warrior Race Car has been just exceptional so far and I am already very comfortable in it. In 3 starts we have a couple of second place finishes and a fifth. As well as we have run right out of the gate has my whole team really excited about this year.” Ferguson said.
On Saturday the team made the short trip to Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, North Carolina for the 11th Annual Skyler Trull Memorial. The STM, the Carolina Clash Series season opener, is a special event to Ferguson and his team. Chris and his family were very close to the Trulls as he grew up. Chris won the event in 2009. Ferguson dug a bit of hole for himself in qualifying timing quick enough for the fifth starting spot. “We knew track conditions were going to make it tough to pass. So starting fifth was definitely not what we had hoped for.” Ferguson said. However late in the race Ferguson found himself sitting in second behind race-long leader Ross Bailes. “Ross had a good car and it was going to be tough to get by him. The track had slowed down so much on the bottom and by the time I realized it Ricky (Weeks) was driving by on the outside.” added Ferguson. Ferguson followed Weeks’ outside charge to take second but ran out of laps trying to chase down the 5-time Carolina Clash Champion.
Then on Sunday afternoon Chris and his team traveled across the state line to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina for the Ultimate Late Model Series sanctioned March Madness 9. Ferguson again found himself deeper in the starting grid than what he would have liked. “It was a daytime race and you know going in that passing will tough, so you need to get a good starting spot. We rolled off eighth behind a lot of good cars. But they put some water on the track and that helped it. I saw Bloomquist move up to the top and pick up some spots so I followed him up there. The top was pretty good and we moved all the way up to third. But we bent something on the front end late in the race and fell back to fifth. But we were happy to come out of here with another top 5 finish and I believe we moved to second in the Ultimate Series points.” Ferguson said after the race.
Chris and his team are now working in their Mt. Holly, North Carolina shop to prepare their Warrior machine for Volunteer Speedway’s $10,000 to win Spring Thaw this Saturday, March 19th at the legendary Bulls Gap, Tennessee 4/10ths of a mile high-banked oval. “We have been to Bulls Gap a couple of times and we always ran pretty well there. It’s really high-banked and it’s usually real fast and racy. So we are looking forward to being there. It will also give us a chance to race over in Warrior Race Car builder Sanford Goddard’s backyard. We have high expectations going in and Sanford’s knowledge of the track and what to expect from it will be a big asset to us.” Ferguson said.
