Heading South: Chub Frank Returns To Action This Weekend At Mississippi’s Columbus Speedway

BEAR LAKE, PA – March 15, 2011 – Ready or not, Chub Frank will resume his 2011 racing campaign this weekend (March 18-19) with a trip to Columbus (Miss.) Speedway for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series ‘Cash Cow 100.’

The 49-year-old veteran standout from Bear Lake, Pa., would prefer to have a few more weeks off before returning to the grind of the WoO LMS because he’s been so busy helping customers in his shop for the past month, but the schedule is ready to crank up again so ‘Chubzilla’ will point his hauler south.

“The last few weeks have gone by real fast,” said Frank, who has been inactive since making his ’11 debut during the mid-February DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park. “I’ve been flat-out here in the shop getting customers taken care of. I wish I could say I was able to spend all this time working on my stuff because we struggled in Florida, but I’ve had to concentrate on taking care of all my customers I need to take care of.”

In between his own racing efforts, Frank puts together and sets up cars for a substantial number of dirt Late Model racers. The side work helps pay his team’s bills so he can stay on the road while competing without a major sponsor.

“You gotta do what you gotta do to keep going in this business,” said Frank. “You take all the work you can handle, and this winter we’ve been pretty busy. You gotta get everybody else happy before going hammer-down on your own stuff.”

Frank was expecting to work on customers’ equipment right up until departing for Columbus – most likely sometime on Thursday, which means he’ll likely be forced to miss Thursday evening’s open practice session at the one-third-mile oval. He wants to get caught up with as much of his workload as possible because he’ll be away from home for more than a week; after Columbus, the WoO LMS will contest a tripleheader weekend at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway (March 25), Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga. (March 26) and Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga. (March 27).

Frank is hopeful that he can get his Corry Rubber/Lake Shore Paving/Hino Toyota Rocket machines rolling forward at Columbus, a high-speed bullring that has been good to him in the past. His previous visits there with the WoO LMS brought him solid finishes of fifth (August 2006) and fourth (March 2007).

The 'Cash Cow 100' weekend includes time trials and heat races on Fri., March 18, and B-Mains and the $20,000-to-win 100-lapper on Sat., March 19.
