Morgan Bagley Scores Top 5 at Pelican 100; TMS Up NextLongview, Texas (03/03/11) – Morgan Bagley served notice to the Super Late Model world over the course of last weekend that he will be a force in 2011 by recording a fifth place finish against a talented field of competitors at the Pelican 100 in his #14m McMillan Motorsports/Rocket by Club 29 Super Late Model.
For the first time since January, Morgan was back in action over the course of last weekend at Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) in the 1st Annual Childress Fishing & Rentals Pelican 100. The event was slated to get underway with an Open Practice Session on Thursday night, but Mother Nature would have other ideas as it would nix the practice. As a result, the program opened on Friday with time trials and heat race action. With 48 Super Late Models entered, Morgan registered a strong qualifying effort to start third in his heat race. At the drop of the green flag, he would jump to the second spot and would go on to chase Bub McCool to the checkered flag to record a second place finish, which earned him the fifth starting spot for Saturday night's $10,000 to win, 100 lap finale.
On Saturday night, Morgan would initially fall backwards a few spot early in the event before he began to work his way forward again. Shortly after the midpoint of the feature, he would get as high as the fourth spot and even briefly cracked the top three before slipping two spots to a fifth place finish at the checkered flag behind winner, Ray Moore, Bub McCool, David Breazeale, and Kenny Merchant.
