33rd ANNUAL ALABAMA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS & 37th ANNUAL NATIONAL 100 DATES RELEASEDPhenix City, AL - East Alabama Motor Speedway officials have announced the dates for two of the biggest events held at the 3/8 mile high banked clay oval.
The Alabama State Championships the brainchild of the late Jimmy Thomas, founder and builder of East Alabama Motor Speedway. Jimmy saw a need to recognize the grass roots racers in all divisions, not just your top racing classes. A format was developed where all types of race cars and drivers would receive equal treatment, big purse money, beautiful trophies and an opportunity to be an Alabama State Champion. This format has been and continues to be a huge success. Drivers in all divisions from throughout the Southeast look forward to making the trip to East Alabama Motor Speedway for the “Event” as labeled by Ronnie Johnson who made history by being the first driver to ever win all 3 of the Late Model classes. “The Chattanooga Flash” drove his famous #5 to victory lane in Super Late Model, Crate Late Model & Late Model Sportsman at the 2010 Alabama State Championships. The 33rd Annual Alabama State Championships will be held September 29 – October 2, 2011.
The first National Dirt Track Championship race was held on the second Sunday in November 1975. Bud Lunsford held the lead all 150 laps to take home the $1500 to win. In 1980, the National Dirt Track Championship was rescheduled for 100 laps, instead of the previously scheduled 150 laps, therefore becoming known as the "NATIONAL 100". Held every year in November, the 2010 grand finale of the season saw Steve Francis from Ashland, KY take home $25,000 for his efforts. The National 100 is the oldest and most prestigious dirt track racing event in the deep south. The 37th Annual National 100 will be held November 10 – 13, 2011.
