$12,000 DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series Point Standings will be decided this weekend at the Steel City StampedeBob Felmlee leads five drivers still in the mix for the Series Championship
Sarver, PA (October 20, 2010) The DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series will come to a dramatic conclusion this weekend at Lernerville Speedway’s DIRTcar Round Up Steel City Stampede on Thursday-Friday-Saturday, October 21-22-23.
Entering this weekend’s three-day, 10 division dirt track racing extravaganza, 2010 Mercer Raceway Park Track Champion Bob Felmlee leads the DIRTcar CSS point standings by a narrow margin over 2010 Lernerville Speedway Track Champion Danny Holtgraver, All Time Lernerville Speedway wins leader Ed Lynch Jr. and 2009 Lernerville/Mercer Track Champion Rod George. 2010 Sharon Speedway Track Champion Jack Sodeman Jr. is also still in striking distance for the DIRTcar CSS Championship.
Despite not winning a race over the seven contested events of the series, Felmlee has been the model of consistency, recording top ten finishes in all seven events, and finishing in the top five four times. He currently sits atop the standings with 220 points. Holtgraver, winner of the September 5 race at Tri-City Speedway, rides second with 218 points. Lynch, winner of the July 30 race at Tri-City Speedway, is third with 215 points. George, winner of the inaugural race of the series at Lernerville Speedway on April 23, is fourth with 211 points. Jack Sodeman Jr., winner of the July 31 show at Mercer Raceway Park, is 30 points behind Felmlee with 190 points, but is not expected to compete this weekend as he is already preparing for the 2011 season.
While these are the only five title contenders, the $12,000 purse is spread throughout the top ten in points. The rest of the DIRTcar CSS top ten in points heading into this weekend’s Steel City Stampede at Lernerville Speedway includes Brian Ellenberger (160), Brent Matus (144), Brandon Matus (120), Eric Williams (106) and Carl Bowser (102). With the same 30/10 point feature/heat structure used during Fab Four Racing, the following drivers still have a chance to break into the money of the top ten of the final DIRTcar Challenge Sprint Series point standings: Pete Miller III (93), Dan Kuriger (87), Andy McKisson (78), Gale Ruth Sr. (75), Jack Whitmore (75), Mike Lutz (72), and Aaron Shaffer (71).
As mentioned above, Rod George (April 23), Ed Lynch Jr. (July 30), Jack Sodeman Jr. (July 31), and Danny Holtgraver (September 5) have won DIRTcar CSS features this season. Other winners include Dave Blaney at Tri-City Speedway on the Fourth of July, Mike Lutz at the Lou Blaney Memorial Classic at Sharon Speedway on July 7, and Brian Ellenberger at the Western PA Sprint Championship at Mercer Raceway Park on September 12.
