Ethan Hunter Comes Home Seventh in 21st Annual Magnolia State 100

Tiger, Georgia – After a wild two days, 18 year old Georgia young gun Ethan Hunter claims a top ten in the 21st Annual Magnolia State 100 presented by Premier Ford at Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi. Hunter had previously only visited the track deemed “The Baddest Bullring in the South” on one other occasion in 2008 when he placed 10th in the Mississippi Triple Crown event. Hunter was very happy with his performance. “There were definitely a lot of great cars down there. I am very proud of how well we ran against that level of competition. Seventh is an improvement from the first time we were there so maybe we can go back again soon and improve a little more. I really like the racetrack. It is badfast and started out really hooked up and then kept getting slicker and slicker. It is a fun place to race at for sure.” Hunter said of his outing.

Hunter started off his weekend by laying down a qualifying lap of 13.798 seconds which was good enough for fast time in his group. Hunter clocked in ahead of drivers like veteran Terry English of Benton, Kentucky and perennial Columbus Speedway winner Anthony Rushing of Kosciusko, Mississippi. Hunter continued to show his strength on Friday night by leading all 15 laps of his heat to take the win and secure his sixth starting spot for the 100 lap feature on Saturday night. “My car was really good around the top in the heat race. But being out front it was hard to tell just how hard I needed to run, so I tried to be smooth but run as fast as I could up against the wall. It worked out pretty good because we ended up winning by about half a straightaway over Terry (English).” Hunter added.

Saturday’s 100 lap A-main ended up being a survival of the fittest type of affair with only 10 cars running when the checkered flag fell. “We just tried to stay out of trouble and finish the race. There was a lot of attrition in the race but we stayed up in the top ten all night and avoided all the trouble. Our car was pretty good throughout the whole race. The racetrack stayed racy too. It definitely had a couple of grooves just not everybody could run them both. We are very happy with how well we ran all weekend and we are looking forward to going back again when we get the opportunity.” Hunter said.

Hunter will take the coming weekend off as he prepares for a pair of $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events scheduled for October 9th and 10th. Saturday night, October 9th will see the team take part in the annual Dixie Shootout at the Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Georgia. Then on Sunday, October 10th the team will move just down Interstate 75 to the Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia for the Rome Showdown which will be the season finale for the series.
