Back From The Midwest, Chub Frank Turns Attention To McKean County Raceway’s Fall Classic This Weekend BEAR LAKE, PA – Sept. 22, 2010 – After traveling to the Midwest last Saturday night, Chub Frank is ready to chase some big money in his backyard this weekend.
The 48-year-old star from Bear Lake, Pa., plans to enter the fifth annual Fall Classic Weekend this Friday and Saturday nights (Sept. 24-25) at McKean County Raceway in East Smethport, Pa. Friday’s program features a 30-lap main event paying $2,500 to win, while Saturday’s card is headlined by the ‘RaceFAN 50’ that boasts a $13,000 top prize.
“We’ve run good in the past at Smethport,” said Frank, who won the Fall Classic Weekend’s ‘RaceFAN 50’ in 2006 and the Friday-night preliminary feature in 2007. “We’ll go there and see what we can do. Hopefully it’ll be a good weekend for us again.”
McKean County’s Fall Classic Weekend is sanctioned by the United Late Model Series. The current ULMS points leader is Frank’s cousin and shop-mate, Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs, who will also compete in the weekend’s action.
Frank heads to McKean County coming off a busy Saturday (Sept. 18) in Pevely, Mo. He arrived in the town a half-hour south of St. Louis early on Saturday to make a pre-race appearance on behalf of LaCrosse Footwear at Dunn’s Sporting Goods. After spending two hours showing off his green-and-black Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota Rocket car and meeting with fans, he loaded up and made the short drive to nearby I-55 Raceway for the evening’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series Pepsi Nationals.
A runner-up in the 2008 Pepsi Nationals, Frank entered Saturday’s program with high hopes. But he struggled to the 19th-fastest lap in time trials and had to win the B-Main to transfer to the 55-lap A-Main, which he started from the 19th position. Frank got his machine moving in the right direction in the feature, but he had to settle for a ninth-place finish.
Frank is off from WoO LMS competition until Oct. 13, when the tour visits The Dirt Track at Charlotte in Concord, N.C., for the World of Outlaws Late Model Showdown.
