Throughout the Super Late Model community, the World 100 is widely regarded as the most prestigious event that a competitor can win. This weekend, September 10th-11th, Bub will take his best shot at claiming the globe-shaped trophy in the 40th Annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway. Last weekend was a busy time for Bub and McCool Motorsports as they spent the Labor Day weekend in West Virginia. On Friday night McCool entered a $10,000 to win feature with the UFO Super Late Model Series at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, WV). Seventy-eight Super Late Models entered the event, and McCool would qualify for the main event, but would retire early with mechanical woes to a 24th place finish.
On Saturday night the Black Diamond 125 was held with the field being split into separate $20,000 to win features. Bub would qualify for the first feature in the 12th starting spot and would rocket through the pack to score a second place finish behind winner, Donnie Moran.
Via his second place finish in the first feature, McCool locked into a bonus feature where the top eight cars from each of the first two features went to war in a winner take all, $10,000 to win race. Bub would finish 12th in the final rundown in the shootout.
Sunday night found Bub at West Virginia Motor Speedway for the $42,000 to win, 42nd Annual Hillbilly 100, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Forty-nine cars entered the event, and after struggling in time trials, Bub started 8th in his heat race. He would race his way to a 5th place finish in the heat race, leaving him one spot short of a transfer to the feature. As a result, he was scheduled to start on the front row of a b-main, but mechanical issues were discovered prior to the event, forcing the team to scratch from the program.
