Matt Long Set for Wythe Raceway’s Fastrak Pro Late Model NationalsConcord, North Carolina – Matt Long and his GazZu Orange Energy Drink Race Team are completing their final preparations for this coming weekend’s 7th Annual Fastrak Pro Late Model Nationals at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. After a change of format this year’s event will feature two completely separate shows. On Saturday night the team will race in a $2000 to win Fastrak feature. Then on Sunday night they go after the $5000 winner’s purse. At the end of Sunday night’s 75 lap feature Wythe and Fastrak will combine points from Saturday and Sunday and the driver with the best cumulative points total will be crowned as the Pro Late Model National Champion. “This has really become my favorite weekend of racing. Wythe is such a great racetrack and we have a win up there this year too. So I am very much looking forward to the trip.” Long said.
The 2010 season is turning out to be the best yet in Long’s short career, having already amassed seven feature wins and several top five finishes. Long also picked up what he deems as his “biggest win yet” when he took the checkers in the Gaston County Shrine Race back on August 8th. “That is just such a prestigious event. It is really special to a lot of people and it is a huge win for me personally. It was definitely a win that I will always remember and cherish.” Long commented. The confidence that Long has gained will be crucial over the next few weeks as he enters several large purse events to round out the season. “After Wythe we still have the three day NDRA Dirt Wars events and we are right in the hunt for that $10,000 point championship.” Long added. The NDRA Dirt Wars carries over $30,000 in point monies to be spread among the top 15 in the final standings.
“Our car has been running well all year long and I think our results have shown that. My confidence level is at an all-time high right now. And that has come from running up front and being consistent all year long. We have been in contention at nearly every racetrack that we have been to this year. I think a lot of our consistency has come from our Integra Shocks and Springs package. The Integra guys really worked hard and found us a package that is fast and very comfortable for me. When you couple that with all of the input that we have had from Rocket Chassis and the continued support we get from GazZu, Circle K, Heintz Performance and all of our great sponsors, that’s where we have found our success. My crew guys are the other piece to the puzzle. They work their tails off to give me what I need to win and I am just fortunate enough that I get to be the driver for such a great team.” Added Long.
