DRIVERS TO TAKE IT OFF AT WORLD 100

ROSSBURG, OH (Sept. 3) -- Race fans may want to bring their camera to Eldora Speedway’s World 100 (September 10/11) to capture a rare moment as 21 drivers will be taking it off. It, in this case, refers to their hair.

Jeep VanWormer has spearheaded the ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign and has recruited 20 of his fellow dirt Late Model drivers to donate their hair as they join the fight against cancer. Proceeds from the unique crusade will go directly to Children’s Cancer Fund of America, Cancer Research Institute and the American Cancer Society.

A season long drive to raise funds through www.ahead4acure.com will culminate Friday evening after the time trial runs and again on Saturday during World 100 pre-race ceremonies as the 21 drivers step to the stage and have their heads shaved. A Head 4 A Cure is a non-profit organization that strives to bring drivers and race fans together to help cancer victims and their families.

VanWormer conceived the idea while across the seas racing in Australia in March of 2009. “My friend that had arranged for me to go there to race asked me to participate in a Shave for the Cure drive they had going on. Within 20 minutes the fans donated a few thousand dollars to get me shaved. I then thought of how cool it would be to get a group of drivers to stick together and really try making a difference for such a great cause in the United States. In a heart beat, 20 drivers stepped to the plate.”

Drivers that VanWormer has recruited include Shannon Babb, Brian Birkhofer, John Blankenship, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Steve Casebolt, Shane Clanton, Rick Eckert, Jason Feger, Steve Francis, Tim Fuller, Frank Heckenast, Jr., Scott James, Brandon Kinzer, Tim McCreadie, Matt Miller, Brad Neat, Dustin Neat, Jimmy Owens, Brady Smith and Jack Sullivan.

Donations are still being accepted at the website and will be taken up until the time of the shave-off, with the drivers raising the most money to be shaved last.

This will mark the 40th anniversary of the World 100, which has become considered within the fraternity to be the Nation’s premier dirt Late Model race. A winner’s share of $43,000 is up for grabs, along with the famed globed trophy.

Complete event information is available on the track’s website – www.eldoraspeedway.com.
