FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 25, 2010
42nd ANNUAL HILLBILLY HUNDRED EVENTS SET AT WEST VIRGINIA MOTOR SPEEDWAYMountain State Motorsports Promotions and legendary race promoter Carl Short have done it again! The nation's oldest Late Model major event continues to grow in prestige, and the 42nd edition of the 'Hillbilly Hundred' weekend (Sept. 2-5) will provide even more jaw-dropping racing action than ever before.
The Labor Day weekend classic is one that hard core race fans have already circled on their calendars, as the tradition, level of competition and on track excitement continue to make this a "must see" event. The 2010 version of this dirt late model "Crown Jewel" event moves to the spacious and fan friendly confines of the West Virginia Motor Speedway, located just south of Parkersburg at Mineral Wells, WV.
Culminating with the running of the 42nd Hillbilly Hundred, the 4 day festival of speed features a star studded line up, providing a "Woodstock-like" appeal to race fans everywhere. The 42nd annual Hillbilly Hundred will feature the cars and stars of the Lucas Oil Dirt Car Series. The Lucas Oil Late Models have developed a huge following, enhanced by their televised races featured on the SPEED channel. The traveling Lucas Oil professionals will see some stiff competition as top drivers from other series and regional independents will swell the field, all attempting to etch their name in one of short track auto racing's most prestigious and storied record books.
Before the Sunday main event, race fans in attendance will be treated to the most diverse and exciting line up ever presented in the long and storied history of the Hillbilly Hundred.
As the weekend kicks off on Thursday, as fans will have the chance to settle into their favorite camping spot and enjoy the 'Hillbilly Hundred Kick-off Party, featuring live music, vendors, great food and more!
The original season opener that was postponed due to rain will now be the opening act of a 4 night speed spectacular, featuring the running of the Mark Balzano Memorial as the September 2nd date will see the return of the 'O'Reilly Auto Parts' All-Star sanctioned Late Models to the speedplant. Josh Richards, Steve Francis, Steve Shaver and Tyler Reddick were the Late Model prelim winners, and the starting field has been set for the $5000 to win event.
Likewise, the FASTRAK Mid Ohio Valley Touring Series Late Models and TSMA Modifieds have a full field locked & loaded for their $1200 to win make up main events. The TSMA Hot Mods were on the track for their qualifying heat races when the rains forced the end to the opening program. The Hot Mod division is the only class on the card that will accept new entrants from the original show, as the heat races weren't in the books when Mother Nature threw the red flag.
Friday (Sept. 3), the action begins in earnest featuring a pair of complete shows with the running of the $2,000 to win "White Lightnin' 25" for the TSMA modifieds and the 1st of two “Hillbilly Hustle” BRP Big Block modified shows. This will be the first time the 'Speed Plant' has ever hosted the Big Block modifieds in it's storied history, and this event has created a buzz among those who have clamored for these open wheeled ground pounders to challenge the high banks.
Also on the Friday night card will be the $750 to win Ohio Valley Pure Stocks 'Lil Hilly 15', and the famous 'party in the pits' after the on track action is complete.
The action intensifies on Saturday (Sept. 4) night as the $5,000 to win 'Hillbilly 50' for Steel Block Late Models will headline the action. Co/sanctioned by the Steel Block Bandits and Steel Block Mafia groups, this race has long been regarded a must see race. Additionally, the BRP Big Blocks and TSMA open wheeler modifieds return for round 2, once again gunning for $1,500 & $2,000 respectively on the line in twin complete shows.
Rounding out the action filled Saturday night card will be the 'Lil' Hilly 15' $750 to win Ohio Valley Pure Stock Complete Show, and a complete program for the TSMA Hot Mod division, as the area's newest and most economical class goes to battle in the 'Ridge Runner 15'. Fans and competitors alike will be treated again Saturday night to the popular "party in the pits" as the action packed evening comes to a close.
A years worth of anticipation will be the closing act of the weekend, as the grand-daddy of all dirt late model majors will control the 5/8 mile high banks on Sunday (Sept. 5). The 42nd annual Hillbilly Hundred champion will cash a record $42,000 winner's check when crowned on the front stretch after proving his mettle in the climatic 100 lap main. With a past champions list that reads like the "Who's Who" in American short track stock car racing, this is an event that every dirt racer would love to add to their resume, but only a talented few can claim as their own.
Old time race fans and those who never had the fortune to witness the "Magic of Pennsboro" can also participate in the 'Legendary Pennsboro Speedway Reunion'. Over a decade in planning will bring legendary names in auto racing together to reminisce about the track that started it all. Old acquaintances and races relived will be on tap all weekend long in this once in a lifetime event!
