Chilton Takes the $$ with Win at Ponderosa; Disappointment Strikes at Lake Cumberland LEXINGTON, KY (August 24, 2010) -Michael Chilton and his #97 CJ Rayburn Dirt Late Model team traveled to the Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Friday night August 20th for an unsanctioned $1,000 to win event and at the end of the night the Harrodsburg, KY racer had cashed in on the win and added another win to his 2010 victory column. Chilton time trialed in fastest among the 19 entries and won the dash over Victor Lee. In the A-Main, Chilton led every lap and cruised to the win over Lee, Dustin Linville, Todd Coffman and Joey Daniel.
The Chilton Motorsports then team traveled to Lake Cumberland Speedway on August 21st to compete in the $3,000 to win Volunteer Racing Series sanctioned event. Michael time trialed in fastest in his group and won his qualifying heat over Tommy Kerr, David Webb and Rod Carter.
At the start of the 40 lap A-Main Chilton headed to the point and was pulling away from the strong field represented by 5 states when coming off turn 2 on the 6th lap disaster stuck and Michael ended up on his roof after contact with the turn two concrete wall. Michael was unhurt, but the Rayburn race car suffered enough damage that made it impossible to continue for the remainder of the event, thus relegating him to a disappointing 19th place finish after being the dominate car of the A-main.
