Racing to a Cure for ALS Night at Jackson County Speedway

MAQUOKETA, Ia. (August 22, 2010) – The Season Championship races at the Jackson County Speedway on Saturday, August 28th, will take on additional meaning this year, as racers and fans help to raise money to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Racing to a Cure for ALS Night will be filled with great racing action and fun activities for kids and adults alike. There will be a duck pond, a bean bag toss, and face painting for the children, while the adults will get a chance to soak their favorite driver in the dunk tank. The activities will begin at 5:00pm, with proceeds going to the Iowa ALS Association & ALS Walk – Team Oberbreckling.

One driver is even donating his on-track performance to the cause. Chip Kohl, a street stock driver from Marion, has offered to start in the rear of his feature, in exchange for sponsors who are willing to make a donation for each car he passes during the race.

Track champions will be crowned in all six weekly racing divisons: 4 Stocks, Hobby Stocks, IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Gade Race Engines/Shirts ‘N Stuff Pro Mods, and the B&D Pit Stop IMCA Late Models. The evening’s racing program is sponsored by S.C. Oberbreckling Excavating and Construction of Onslow, Iowa.

Due to the nature of this special event, the start of the racing program has been revised. Pit gates at the Jackson County Speedway open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30pm, as usual. Hot laps will be at 6:30pm and racing starts at 7pm, for this event only.

The Jackson County Speedway is located at the Jackson County Fairgrounds, in Maquoketa.
