Volunteer Racing Series ready for Part II at Lake Cumberland August 21SOMERSET, KY (August 11, 2010)--The Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY is ready for the return of the Volunteer Racing Series on Saturday Night August 21st.
This will be the second-ever appearance to the 3/8th’s mile facility located just minutes from Somerset, KY which is promoted by Brandon Hardgrove.
Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY showed domination during the series’ last appearance back on June 26th when he claimed the $3,000 during the first round of the Border Wars at Lake Cumberland Speedway taking the win over current VRS points leader Mike Weeks of Friendsville, TN; who had only seen Lake Cumberland Speedway once before and claimed a runner-up finish.
Included on the racing card will be the Modifieds racing for a $1,000 top prize and the Super Dirt Stocks, 4-Cylinders and Front Wheel Drives also racing for a DOUBLE POINTS racing event. The Late Models will also have single track points that night.
In addition to the Super Late Model Feature event purse which is in excess of over $13,000 the Modifieds will race for $1,000 to the winner and the track will also feature a Fireworks show for the great fans of Lake Cumberland Speedway during the August 21 show.
There will be a complete show of practice, Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains and the 40-lap Main event. The VRS Late Model tire rule is as follows: Open Front, Hoosier 1600 (shoulder plated) or 55 and American Racer MD-56 on the REAR. The LM-40 will also be legal for competition in this event. It is mandatory that these tires punch 60 with the durometer before any qualifying or race. The VRS Late Model entry fee is $50.00. Joe Patrick of Albany, KY currently leads the Lake Cumberland Speedway track championship point standings heading into August 21st and other local competitors expected include: R.C. Ward of Somerset, KY; Johnny Wheeler of Campbellsville, KY; Nick Claiborn of Albany, KY; Greg Hansford of Somerset, KY; Daniel Hatcher of Campbellsville, KY; Steve Elliott of Corbin, KY; Mark Walters of Nicholasville, KY; Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY; Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY as well as many others expected to be on hand. Some of the regional racers expected include: Hall of Fame driver Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN (with 784 career feature wins); Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, KY (VRS Feature winner at LCS on June 26th); Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN; Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, GA are among some of the regional racers expected.
On Saturday August 21st at Lake Cumberland, the gates for the pits will open at 3:00 p.m. while the grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. A driver’s meeting will be held at 6:45 p.m. while Hot Laps are slated for a little after 7:00 p.m. All times are Eastern.
Tickets for the Lake Cumberland grandstand gate are $20.00 for adults while children 6-10 are admitted for $10.00 and children 5 and under are Free. Adult Pit Passes will be $35.00.
