King of the Hill Awaits MDLMS Competitors at Minneapolisby Dusty Wiegert
MINNEAPOLIS, Kan. -- For the first time in Minneapolis Raceway and Midwest DIRTcar Late Model Series history a king shall be crowned in the Late Model division. The special event will take place Saturday night August 7 featuring head to head competition of the Late Models, something that has never been done before.
The King of the Hill competition is a head to head bracket style event, similar to bracket competitions in drag racing. The fastest lap time each driver turns in their heat race will be used to position them in the brackets, with the fastest qualifier against the slowest qualifier in round 1. The bracket will continue until one car is left, making them the King of the Hill.
All of this will take place during the evening's festivities which will include the regularly scheduled program of qualifying heat races and features for the MDLMS Late Models.
Also in action will be the T&R Dirt Construction IMCA Northern SportMods, Coors Light IMCA Hobby Stocks, and Terry Smith Plumbing Mod Lites.
Gary Gorby leads the MDLMS Championship standings coming into race #7 for 2010. He has a somewhat comfortable lead by 59 points over Brad Fortney. A tight battle is still being fought for the third place position with Cale Gottschalk, Darin Busch, and Tyler Gottschalk within striking distance.
The night's events kick off with the pit gates opening at 4PM, grandstand gates at 5PM, hot laps at 6PM, and racing at 7PM.
Admission prices are $15 for Adults, Youth 7-14 $5, and Kids 6 & Under FREE.
