RACING RETURNS TO RIVER VALLEY SPEEDWAY

The roar of race car engines will return to the "Valley of speed" when the new River Valley Speedway opens a new era of racing on Saturday, August 7th. River Valley held it's last race in 2007 and returns with a new team in charge and a plan for success. Local arenacross promoter and construction company owner Rickey Borden, alongside two other partners, have secured a long term lease for this shuddered speed plant. The initial plans for the remainder of 2010 season will find River Valley running a schedule of twice a month on Saturday nights up until November.
When the ink was dry on the lease, Borden and staff began to tackle the large task of overcoming the ravages on time and nature at this speedway that is located in a very rural area. Circled by lush green hills and a river off the back straight, crews have been working daily in cleaning up and refurbishing most all aspects of the facility. Shoulder high grass and weeds needed to be knocked down on the track itself while work was needed on fencing, lighting, and the public address system The parking lot needed to be groomed for the spectators while the pits needed attention as well. Work in the tower is progressing as well as concession and restroom areas, all in need of care after a three year layoff.
The track features two grandstands for spectators and four smaller grandstands for the racers and crews in the large pit area. There is trackside parking also available for those who like to tailgate at the races. Well known during it's years of operation as the smoothest track in Alabama, this dirt track will be sure to please as the first practice session the track was billiard table smooth even after the long layoff. The track, located near Arkadelphia will have one more night of practice on July 30th to give racers and crews time to get back in the groove.
Opening night will have the big-horsepower Super Late Models running an unsanctioned $2000-to-win special event, Late Model Stocks, Modifieds, Outlaw and Super Streets, Mini-Stocks and Hoggs round out the busy opening night card. Make plans now to hear the roar by the river when racing returns to the "Valley of speed" at River Valley Speedway on August 7th!!
