Tazewell, Tennessee – Tazewell Speedway welcomes the Ray Cook’s Southern Nationals on Saturday, July 24, the mini-tour featuring 10 races in 13 nights. Tazewell Speedway has hosted the Southern Nationals finale every year since the series started six years ago. Some of the best drivers from the Southeast will be competing for the $5,300 winner’s check.
This year’s Southern Nationals is shaping up to be a tight battle to Saturday night’s championship race. There could be at least five drivers could have a shot at winning this year’s title at Tazewell Speedway.
Defending series champion Tommy Kerr of Maryville is one of the drivers in the championship mix. He finds himself chasing last year’s runner-up Jonathan Davenport. Tony Knowles, Vic Hill of Morristown, John Henderson, and Brian Booze are also in the title hunt.
All the drivers chasing points for the Southern Nationals will also have to do battle with some of the area’s top drivers. Former series champion Chris Madden, Billy Ogle Jr., Rick Rogers, Mike Weeks, Steve Smith, and others will also be looking to win and claim the $5,300 winner’s check.
Also racing on Saturday will be the modified streets, pure streets, four cylinders, and classic cars.
General admission tickets are $20 for adults with kids 10 and under admitted free with a paying adult. Pit passes are $30. Pit gates open at 3:00 and grandstand gates open at 5:00. Racing will start at 7:45.
