3 Rivers Rampage, Flight of the Phoenix and PENNational Headline Upcoming Events at PPMS(June 23, 2010) Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway will crank up the excitement with an exciting lineup of thrilling events. The “3 Rivers Rampage,” the “Flight of the Phoenix” presented by Mosites Motorsports for the 410 Sprints and the PENNational for the UFo/ULMS Super Late Models will be the star attractions in July at the monster half mile.
The NAPA Auto Parts “3 Rivers Rampage” will cap off the month of June with a special Sunday night show on June 27. The DIRTCAR Super Late Models will compete for $1,500, with the FASTRAK Pro-Lates racing for $550, UMP E-mods for $450 and the DIRTcar Cadets for $350. The Hobby & Young Guns will also be in competition. Gates will open at 5:00 with warm-ups at 6:00 and racing at 7:00 PM. Admission is $13 for Adults, $12 for Seniors, $10 for Junior 13-15, $5 for Children 7-12 and $30 for the pits. Free grandstand admission may be obtained with a $25 receipt for a NAPA retail purchase between April 1 and June 19 with ID.
The winged warriors will descend upon the PPMS Monster Half mile on Saturday, Night July 10. The “Flight of the Phoenix” presented by Mosites Motorsports will feature a 20 lap 410 Sprint championship paying $2,500 to win and $200 to start. Bonus money will be on the line with $1,500 to win for the DIRTcar Super Lates, $550 to win for the FASTRAK Pro-Lates, $450 to win for the UMP E-mods and $350 to win for the DIRTcar Cadets. The Hobby & Young Gun classes will also be in action. An open tire rule will apply for the Sprints, Super Late Models, E-mods and Cadets.
The 410 Sprints produce some of the fastest speeds on dirt on the wide, sweeping half mile at PPMS. Last year’s 410 Sprint event was won by Kevin Schaeffer from Kitanning, PA. Admission for the “Flight of the Phoenix” presented by Mosites Motorsports will be $18 for Adults, $17 for Seniors, $10 for Junior 13-15, $5 for Children 7-12 and $35 for the pits. Car entry fee for Sprint teams is $30. Sprint pre-entries received by July 7 will include a free pit pass for the driver.
As an added attraction for the “Flight of the Phoenix” presented by Mosites Motorsports, the Volunteers of the US Army Field Band will be performing in the grandstand area at 5 PM. The Volunteers are the United States Army premier toruing band show. Since its inception, this talented group has performed in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Central American and Europe. This band seamlessly mixes jazz, 50’s and Motown in a family-oriented show while also focusing on rock. The mission of the United States Army Field Band is “to carry into the grass roots of our country the story of our magnificent Army.”
On Saturday Night, July 24 the UFo and ULMS Super Late Models will meet for their 2nd clash of 2010 at PPMS. The “PENNational” will utilize the thrilling twin feature format with $3,000 total to win for twin 22-lap features. The FASTRAK Pro-Lates will once again compete for $550 with the UMP E-mods paying $450 and the DIRTcar Cadets paying $350. The Hobby & Young Guns will round out the racing program.
PPMS has consistently generated amazing racing action for its UFo and ULMS Super Late Model events over the past seasons. Mark Banal of St. Clairsville, OH and John Mollick split the wins at the UFo/ULMS F-2 Shockwave at PPMS in May. Jared Miley of South Park, PA and Davey Johnson of Greensburg, PA won the UFo/ULMS twin features in 2009 from 13th and 15th on the grid. Other UFo winners at PPMS include Bart Hartman of Zanesville, OH, who scored a win from 20th on the starting grid, Al Atallah of Bridgeville, PA from 12th, John Flinner of Zelienople, PA, and Steve Baker of Fairmont, WV.
Other special events for July include the NAPA Auto Parts Autograph Nite on Saturday, July 3, with Wacky Wheels Figure-8 racing. Free grandstand admission may be obtained with a $25 receipt for a NAPA retail purchase between June 5 and July 3 with ID. Saturday,July 17 will be Free WV/OH Nite with another Wacky Wheels Figure-8 race. All residents of West Virginia and Ohio and their children will be admitted free of charge to the grandstands with ID. Free Butler-Armstrong County Nite is scheduled for Saturday, July 31 with residents of those Pennsylvania Counties being admitted free to the grandstands with ID. All of those events feature the full-throttle action of the DIRTcar Super Late Models, E-mods, Cadets, Hobby and Young Guns plus the FASTRAK Pro-Lates.
