Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series twin $10,000-to-win 'Scorcher' events scheduled June 18-19 at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn. — The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series seventh annual Scorcher 100 presented by Reece Monument Co. of Tazewell is scheduled Friday and Saturday, June 18-19 at Volunteer Speedway.

Originally, the Scorcher was scheduled as a two-day $20,000-to-win, 100-lap event. Twenty-thousand dollars in winner's purse money alone is still up for grabs along with 100 laps of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series racing, but the event is now scheduled as twin $10,000-to-win, 50-lap events ... one scheduled for Friday, June 18; and the second night of racing scheduled for Saturday, June 19.

Both shows will feature Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Red Buck Cigars Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and 50-lap features paying $10,000-to-win, along with Volunteer Speedway support class racing each night (Hobby Stock on Friday and Pro Late Model on Saturday).

Previous Scorcher winners are: Randle Chupp (2004), Rick Eckert (2005), Scott Bloomquist (2006), Chris Madden (2007), Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton (2008), with Tim McCreadie pocketing $20,000 for winning in 2009.

Headlining the list of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series drivers expected to be in action is current points leader and defending series champion Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., along with Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn.; Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla. (2005, '06, '07 and '08 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion, driving for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor Bobby Labonte); Don O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind.; Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C.; Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga. (driving for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor Clint Bowyer); Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind.; Chris Wall of Holden, La.; Dan Schlieper of Sullivan, Wis.; Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky.; John Blankenship of Williamson, W.Va.; Brad Neat of Dunnville, Ky.; Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn.; Tim Isenberg of Marshfield, Wis.; Tyler Reddick of Corning, Calif.; Michael Walker of Franklin, Tenn.; Eric Jacobsen of Watsonville, Calif.; plus possibly Chris Madden of Gaffney, S.C.; Skip Arp of Georgetown, Tenn.; Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky.; Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, Ky.; Jordan Bland of Campbellsville, Ky., Daniel Baggerly of Rural Retreat, Va., plus many more.

Also expect to see in action the always tough East Tennessee locals such as five-time (1997, '98, 2000, '05 and '09) Volunteer Speedway track champion Vic Hill of Morristown, Greeneville's Jeff Maupin (2008 champion), Kerry Jones of Bristol (2001 and '07 champion), Rogersville's Mike Smith (2006 champion), Mark Douglas of Knoxville (2002 and '03 champion), Powell's Mark Vineyard, Randy Weaver of Crossville, Maryville's Tommy Kerr, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Sevierville's Chad Ogle, Rodney Kiker of Greeneville, Knoxville's Rick Rogers, Steve Smith of Powell, Clinton's Stacy Boles, Mike Weeks of Friendsville, along with several others.

Friday night, June 18 racing will consist of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series time trials, heat races, last chance B-mains and the $10,000-to-win, 50-lap Scorcher presented by Reece Monument Co., along with a 25-lap Hobby Stock feature.

Saturday night, June 19 racing will consist of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series time trials, heat races, last chance B-mains and the $10,000-to-win, 50-lap Scorcher presented by Reece Monument Co., along with a 25-lap Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned Pro (Crate) Late Model feature.

Adult grandstand admission Friday and Saturday, June 18-19 is $25 each day, youth (ages 8-15) ticket prices each day $15, with 7-and-under admitted free in the grandstands. There will be no reserved seating for either day of the Scorcher, all seating general admission (but there's not a bad seat in the house)!!! Pit passes and backside tier-parking $35 each day, regardless of age.

Volunteer Speedway does not accept credit cards or checks as payment for purchase of grandstand ticket admission. Cash only!!! Also, no previously handed out Volunteer Speedway complimentary passes for regular weekly shows during the 2010 racing season will be honored for admittance to the Scorcher 100.

The pit gate will open both days at 1 p.m., with the grandstands opening at 3 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin each evening around 7:30 p.m., to be followed by time trials and then racing action.

On Saturday, June 19 between 5-6 p.m. in the pavilion building located behind the front straightaway (main) grandstands, a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series meet-and-greet autograph session is scheduled.

***NOTE: With a large crowd expected and all available seating space needed for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event, no lawn chairs will be permitted in the grandstand. Only stadium seat-type cushions will be allowed. Also, no coolers or outside food allowed to be brought into the front straightaway (main) grandstand! Coolers are permitted in the pit area and the reserved backstretch tier-parking - however no glass containers allowed.

Directions to Volunteer Speedway: South on Interstate 81 from Tennessee/Virginia state lines, take Exit 23 (Bulls Gap/Greeneville), then turn right onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Look for track entrance approximately 200 yards on left.

North on Interstate 81 from I-81/I-40 split (East of Knoxville, TN), take Exit 23, then turn left onto Hwy. 11-E at bottom of the exit ramp. Continue underneath the interstate over-pass and track entrance approximately 300 yards ahead on left.
