FASTRAK NORTHEAT TOURING/NATIONAL EVENTS DRAWING NEAR WITH MCKEAN COUNTY JUNE 19 FOR $5,000, MERCER JULY 3 FOR $6,000 & WVMS JULY 10 FOR $10,000!By Mike Leone
Pulaski, PA…The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is gearing up for its largest stretch of money races in its four-year history. With the expansion of more National Events by FASTRAK Corporate, the Northeast Region is set to host three in a span of less than one month beginning at McKean County Raceway on June 19 for $5,000 to-win followed by Mercer Raceway Park on July 3 for $6,000 to-win and culminating with a $10,000 to-win event at West Virginia Motor Speedway on July 10!
“We’re really excited about these events,” stated Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig. “FASTRAK’s growth has been phenomenal and we have to thank founder Stan Lester for helping to make these events possible as well as these three great facilities for stepping up and hosting these caliber of events. The car counts and quality of racing should be fantastic.”
The first stop on this mini tour will be held at McKean County Raceway located in East Smethport, Pa. on Saturday, June 19. McKean was one of the four original FASTRAK-sanctioned tracks when the FASTRAK Northeast Region began in 2007. McKean has a strong core of cars that features some of the top talent from northwest Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York that are always tough to beat when the outsider come in.
"We are very excited to have the honor to host this national event," stated McKean promoter Ken Leet. "We’re expecting the largest ever FASTRAK field which should include Super Late Model stars Robbie Blair and David Scott, plus Mike Blose, Max Blair, Mike Pegher, Steve Dixon, John Lacki, Jim Frank, Damian Bidwell, John Haggerty and the list goes on and on. This class has really taken off and the Northeast racers have done very well in the past few years on a national level."
The Saturday, July 3 event at Mercer Raceway Park will be the second FASTRAK National Event that has been held at the facility as Dick Barton captured a $5,000 win in the inaugural 2007 season. The ante has been upped with $6,000 awaiting the winner. Mercer’s tricky 3/8-mile configuration always provides excellent racing. Mercer is in its third year of FASTRAK weekly competition and this event will mark the richest to date.
“FASTRAK has quickly become an important part of the weekly show at Mercer,” stated first year owner Bill Altman. “I’ve been very impressed with the competitiveness and growth of FASTRAK in the Northeast. I’m excited to be able to showcase this division in this manner on a National spotlight and hopefully attract a few invaders for the Independence Day Weekend.”
Payoff for June 19 at McKean County & July 3 at Mercer: 1. $5,000 (McKean)/$6,000 (Mercer) 2. $2,500 3. $1,250 4. $750 5. $650 6. $550 7. $500 8. $400 9. $375 10. $350 11. $325 12. $300 13. $275 14. $270 15. $265 16. $260 17. $255 18-24. $250. Non-qualifiers/Tow $100.
With the growth of FASTRAK in West Virginia, the Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series was added for competition in 2010. With that in mind, West Virginia Motor Speedway has been granted a $10,000 National Event on Saturday, July 10. This event will award full points for both the Northeast and Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series, but will be run under FASTRAK National procedures. The night prior will include not only the $1,200 to-win MOV Touring Series make-up feature from May 16, but also a complete new program with $1,200 to-win run under the MOV Touring Series banner.
“Stan has really been proud of the growth here in the Northeast,” stated Co-Director Mike Leone. “And this is a way he’s given back to our region. We really hope the racers and fans come out to support these events, which will feature all of the region’s top talent and most likely some racers from down south and elsewhere that will be traveling in for these big paydays. We start off at 1/3rd mile fairground track at McKean in the North and progress to south to the tricky 3/8th mile at Mercer and follow that up with the granddaddy $10,000 event at the big 5/8th mile at West Virginia Motor as all these tracks should offer unique, interesting challenges.”
The McKean County and Mercer events will be run under Northeast Touring Series procedures and format. Drivers will receive one-lap of qualifying that will determine heat race line-ups. Last chance B main races will be held to fill the field for the 40-lap features. There will be a $125 entry fee. RACEceivers will be mandatory at all three events. More information on these events will be released in the coming weeks. Contact the FASTRAK Corporate office at 678-935-7304 for more information on the West Virginia Motor Speedway event.
