James Chavez Jr. Takes Win in Las Cruces and 2nd in El Paso

May 10th 2010-Tucson, Arizona- As racing began on Friday night for the 4 Corners Late Model Series at El Paso Speedway Park, 21 Late Models rolled in for the nights action. Chavez drew an outside front row starting position for the first heat race but quickly dropped out due to an ill handling racecar. This set Chavez up to start 20th for the A-main. As the green flag dropped it was the high line on the very narrow speedway that allowed the 94 car to rally up to 9th place before the first caution fell. With laps winding down, the 94 of Chavez worked his way up to the 3rd spot battling with long time racer Sherman Barnett lap after lap. As the Nights final caution fell, and the green flag came out, 2nd place Barnett bobbled in turn2 allowing Chavez to slip underneath, but with less than 3 laps to go, there was no time to catch Aztec, NM Driver Jeff Davis for the win.

Saturday nights race at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruses, NM gave way to 27 total Late Models pulling in for action. 4 heat races were inplace with Chavez Jr. on the pole for the last heat race of the set. When the green flag dropped on the Tucson,AZ driver there was no looking back as Chavez went wire to wire. This set up Chavez for a 4th place starting spot in the 27 car A-main field. As the main started it was Richard Johnson out of Albuquerque, NM with the early lead. As lap 7 out of 25 was in the books with a restart taking place, Chavez was able to move into the 2nd spot and on the high side of turn 2 take the lead and secure it going down the back stretch. With laps counting down and cautions flying still no one was able to give challenge to the 94 of Chavez. With over an 8 car length lead the checkers fell for the teams first Feature win of 2010.
