Chub Frank Looks To Build On Two Come-From-Behind Top-10 Finishes Down South

BEAR LAKE, PA – May 6, 2010 – Considering the circumstances, Chub Frank was more than satisfied with the pair of come-from-behind top-10 finishes he recorded during last weekend's World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader in the Southeast.

Now the veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., just needs to eliminate the 'come-from-behind' description from his performance.

Frank was one of the most upwardly mobile drivers in each evening's 50-lap WoO LMS A-Main, finishing sixth (after starting from the 12th and last row) on April 30 at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway and ninth (from 15th) on May 1 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway. But he found himself forced to work his way forward because his qualifying effort put him in a hole from the start of each night.

"That's our problem," said the 48-year-old Frank. "We gotta work on our qualifying so we can start up front. I like having a good car in the feature like we had both nights, but I'd much rather have start up front and have good car."

Frank experienced an eventful night at Fayetteville. After timing 22nd out of 37 cars and failing to qualify through a heat or B-Main, he decided to park his primary Rocket car – a machine he had debuted one week earlier with a winning effort at Pennsylvania's Lernerville Speedway – and pull out his backup mount. He used a provisional spot to start from the 12th and final row with the car, which is actually a Rocket that he maintains for Canadian Peter Mantha Jr.

Despite having no hot laps with the Mantha car, Frank charged through the field to register an unlikely sixth-place finish. He was very pleased with the way he salvaged the night, but he ended the race with an overheating engine and, as a result, had to park the Mantha machine and return to his newest car for the Saturday-night program at Swainsboro.

Frank had a rough time-trial effort again at the three-eighths-mile Swainsboro oval, qualifying 24th out of 29 entries. But he rallied to transfer through a heat race and advance from the 15th starting spot to finish ninth in the A-Main.

"I didn't like getting passed on the last lap," said Frank, who lost eighth place to Chris Ferguson on the final circuit. "But we got a top 10 out of it, so I'm happy with that. We wanted to run Peter's car, but our new car drove good. It just didn't have enough traction to get through the corner coming off.

"Coming out of the trip with two top 10 after everything we went through…I'm happy with it. We'll just keep digging and see what happens."

Frank, who currently sits ninth in the WoO LMS points standings (156 points behind leader Tim McCreadie), heads to the Midwest this weekend to compete in a WoO LMS doubleheader on Fri., May 7, at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway and Sat., May 8, at Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, Ky.
