Great Day For Racing at the Plymouth Dirt Track

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 29, 2010

It's A Great Day For Racing at the Plymouth Dirt Track

By George Baumann
Saturday will be opening night for the 2010 season at the Fair Park oval in Plymouth. Forecast is looking better with the rain chances getting less. Every attempt will be made to race, because it's opening night, and we can't wait.

Again, a large field of cars is expected in all four divisions and a number or rookie drivers will be competing.

In the Late Model division, former champions Craig Schueffner, Russ Scheffler and Bill Rezutek will be back weekly. Schueffner in just three seasons in Late Model competition has been a Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Driver and Champion.

With a number of drivers bringing out new equipment for the season, the racing will fast and furious. Random Lake driver, Brad Mueller, a three-time Slinger champion will be looking for a solid season as well as Jim Schmidt and Rick Scheffler, Turk Letizia, Scott Sohrweide and Ted Dolhun Sr. who is entering his 42nd season with a new car.

In the Sprint Division a new Champion will be crowned, as last year's champion, Troy Wondra from Lomira, will not be racing. Troy's team sold all of their equipment, but Troy was hoping to maybe catch a few rides.

That plan was foiled after Troy suffered serious injuries in a work related accident last fall. He is still recovering and cannot race.

The sprint field will again be loaded with talent, which includes a number of former track champions, T.J. Luedke, Danny Schlafer and Lance Fassbender. These drivers have also been former champions in MSA competition along with Kurt Davis.

A number of Rookies will be competing as well, Erin Winscher (Sheboygan Falls), Randy Brunette (Chilton), and Bill Hood. Hood will be driving a car owned by IRA competitor, Scotty Neitzel, who will drive the car at some shows.

With Samantha Portschy now in her second season, two females will be on hand to gives the ladies an easy favorite.

The Grand National Sportsman field looks solid again as well. With a few rule changes, drivers who have been competing on other area tracks can now race with PDTR.

Last year's Champion, Tim Thompson (Campbellsport), will be sitting in a new racecar to try and repeat. Loren Lubach (Sheboygan) who was a close second last year is planning a year off. He'll keep his helmet and drivers suit close by if some needs a sub-driver.

His cousin Brad, a former track champion, will be back in a new racecar in search of another title. Matt Yancey (Sheboygan) who had a rough season after winning the 2008 title will again join the hunt.

Tim Simon (Fond du Lac) will attempt to defend his title in a field that will include a number of rookies and veterans who have built new cars for 2010.
