FASTRAK NORTHEAST & MOV RETURN TO TYLER COUNTY SATURDAY FOR ANOTHER CO-SANCTIONED TOURING SERIES EVENT

By Mike Leone
Middlebourne, WV…The FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series will once again join up with the new Mid-Ohio Valley Touring Series this Saturday night, May 1 at Tyler County Speedway.  “The Bullring” located in Middlebourne, West Virginia hosted the kickoff to both Series two weeks ago and set a Northeast record with 53 cars on hand!

Saturday’s 25-lap feature will again pay $1,500 to-win, $175 to-start.  It will be the second of three Northeast/MOV Touring Series events at Tyler County with the finale as part of the “Black Diamond Weekend” on Friday, September 3 with a whopping $3,000 up for grabs.

“The turnout for our opener at Tyler County on April 17 was simply amazing,” expressed Northeast Co-Director Vicki Emig.  “We felt like we had a great shot at 40 cars due to FASTRAK’s growth in West Virginia and the cars from the Northeast that we expected to make the trip.  Everyone was blown away with the 53 that showed up from five different states despite the threatening weather conditions in most areas.  Many left from the North with snow either on the ground or falling in the sky.”

Six heat races and three last chance B mains set the field for the 25-lap “topless” feature that saw the Northeast’s best David Scott, Max Blair, and Mike Pegher, Jr. go at it all leading laps.  Pegher was able to pass Blair on lap 20 and appeared to be headed to repeat of last year’s “topless” win; however, on the final lap Pegher thought the yellow was displayed rather than the white and Blair blasted on by for the unexpected victory.

The 20-year-old Blair of Centerville has been off to a strong start winning the opening two Weekly Series events at Mercer Raceway Park on April 3 and 10 and then made it a perfect three-for-three with his April 17 win at Tyler County.  Blair was the 2008 Northeast Touring and National Weekly Series Champion and is now off to a great start to repeat those honors.

Kyle Thomas of Pennsboro, West Virginia was the top Mid-Ohio Valley racer as he ran in the top five for most of the race and finished fourth.  He has the early point lead in the MOV Touring Series.  Dan Karalagas and Gary Knollinger are planning in competing in all Northeast and MOV Touring events as they’ve paid their memberships for both Series and are currently both in the top 10 of both Series.  To date as it is possible for a driver to compete in all Northeast and MOV events as there are no conflicts.

“The quality of cars at Tyler County was outstanding,” said Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone.  “It was a tough show to make and when you look at the list of non-qualifiers you see how many good cars had to watch the feature.  While we certainly don’t expect to have 53 cars again, we feel like 40 is a good possibility on Saturday.”

There have been 35 Touring Series races contested with 16 different winners all-time in the Northeast Touring Series!  Blair currently sits atop the all-time win list at six followed by Dick Barton, Bobby Powell, and John Lacki with four, Pegher, and Scott with three, Alan Dellinger with two, and Todd Andrews, Kyle Drum, Frank Guidace, Butch Lambert, Carl McKinney, Dennis Lunger, Jr., Tom Snyder, Jr., Chris Meadows, and Jim Frank with one victory.
