The Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial event first appeared on the Ponderosa Speedway schedule in 1999 and has been contested ten previous times and produced eight different event winners. The event was not held in 2002, but returned in 2003 as Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would become the first repeat winner of the race by following up his ’03 win with a victory in the 2004 contest. Bryan Barber of Greensburg, KY won his biggest career Super Late Model event with a win in the 2005 “Junebug”, while Joey Daniel of Liberty, KY would win a special Saturday night version of this event on an unseasonably cool night in May of 2006. Brad Neat of Dunnville, KY would etch his name in the ‘Junebug” record books with his stellar performance in the 2007 race, while Victor Lee of Danville, KY would become the second two-time winner of the event with dominating back-to-back wins in 2008 and 2009.
