April's Back-To-Back World of Outlaws Late Model Series 100-Lappers Weren't Good To Chub Frank

BEAR LAKE, PA – April 22, 2010 – April's back-to-back World of Outlaws Late Model Series 100-lappers weren't good to Chub Frank.

The veteran driver from Bear Lake, Pa., kicked off the big-race stretch with a disappointing 20th-place finish in the 'Illini 100' on April 10 at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway. One week later, on April 17, he managed only a 15th-place finish in the inaugural 'Commonwealth 100' at Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica, Va. – although he did at least get off to an encouraging start.

While Frank struggled and was never a factor at the quarter-mile Farmer City oval – he started 12th after qualifying through a heat the previous night but missed the prime setup – he was actually the biggest mover-and-shaker during the early stages of the Commonwealth 100. Starting 24th after transferring through a B-Main, Frank was on the verge of cracking the top 10 one-third of the way into the event.

Unfortunately, the VMS half-mile began to take rubber shortly thereafter – and with that, Frank's charge was stalled. His Rocket Chassis Chevrolet Impala SS No. 1* lost its edge due to the conditions and Frank became one of the many drivers who fell to the race's extreme tire wear, popping a right-rear shoe on lap 91 while running eighth place and settling for 15th-place money after a quick pit stop.

"My car was good early. I was happy with it," Frank said of his Commonwealth 100 outing. "I knew it was gonna get loose, but when that rubber came in it got real loose. I knew it was gonna be bad when that track started getting faster.

"I actually started babying it to save the tires when I saw everybody else having problems, but the problem for me was, being so loose, I couldn't slow down enough not to slide the right-rear tire. That just wore my tire out."

Frank ended the two-race swing ranked ninth in the WoO LMS points standings, 130 points behind co-leaders Tim McCreadie and Josh Richards. He is off from WoO LMS action until a Southeastern doubleheader on April 30 at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway and May 1 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway, but he plans to compete this Friday night (April 23) in a weekly show at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., to shake down a new car.
