Central Missouri Speedway Practice Night and Car Show Set for this Saturday!

The fastest bullring in the Midwest is set to come to life in the next few weeks as another season of close-up racing action gets underway at CMS.  This weekend, the annual pre-season car show takes place as driver sand fans gear up for the following weekend’s season opener.  Drivers have a chance to showcase their new season looks and tout their sponsors live on the air at Saturday’s car show in the parking lot of the Warrensburg Lowe’s store from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  KOKO AM 1450 radio will broadcast live from the event and plans are to interview as many participating drivers as possible.  The radio station is also sponsoring a best in show award for each of the track’s four weekly competing divisions, which will be presented the following weekend on KOKO Radio Race Night.  The Warrensburg Lowe’s store is just north of the junction of Highway 50 on Highway 13.  The car show is free of charge for drivers and fans and presents a great opportunity for kids to see the racecars up close, meet the drivers, and take pictures of the cars before they begin the race season.  Drivers attending the car show should email their intent to participate to samonthemic@hotmail.com for parking instructions.  Drivers should be in place with cars unloaded by 10:30 a.m. on the morning of the car show with cars parked along the east side of the Lowe’s parking lot adjacent to Highway 13.

After the car show wraps up, everyone is cordially invited to the speedway for a practice session in all divisions.  The practice session is open to all car classes.  Concessions will be available during the practice session on the pit side of the speedway.  Grandstand admission for those wishing to attend is absolutely free, pit passes are $20 for anyone entering the pits.  All gates will open at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 17th for the practice session.  CMS is located 3.5 miles north of the Lowe’s store on Highway 13.

Fans and drivers will notice major improvements as they return to CMS again this season.  Track owners Earl and Susan Walls, who are beginning their seventeenth year of operating the speedway, have built a new front side admission/concessions building for patrons this season.  The new building even features one of the track’s iconic symbols, the steeple from the old concessions building, which now rests atop of the newly built facility.  Additional changes and improvements are still being worked on as the track prepares for its opening night of competition with the ‘mighty’ modifieds, ULMA late models, street stocks, and b-modifieds on Saturday, April 24th.  Another twenty loads of clay were brought in after the season concluded last year and the track prep crew has been working the clay into the surface, which should once again prove to be one of the smoothest and fastest in the business.  A record number of drivers have pre-registered for the race season; the complete pre-registered may be found at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

The 2010 race schedule put together by CMS this year is by far the most aggressive its storied history and fans of all disciplines of dirt-track racing are in for a real treat.  There is plenty of time remaining to purchase season passes at discounted rates.  Adult passes are $250, Military or College Student w/I.D. $200, Senior Citizens 65 and up $200, and Kid’s passes for age 6 to 12 are just $150.  Season passes include all weekly programs plus the Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends!  That's 25 nights of racing, do the math!  Call Susan Walls to purchase your passes at (816) 229-1338.  Regular admission prices for this year are $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens 65 and up, college students w/school I.D., young adults age 13 to 17 w/school I.D., and military members with I.D.  Children aged six to twelve are $6 and children five and under are free.  Be sure to keep an eye out in your favorite local newspaper this season for special CMS admission discounts.  We will see you this Saturday for the car show at the Warrensburg Lowe's store and practice later in the evening at the track!
