NeSMITH CHEVROLET WEEKLY RACING SERIES ROUND UP FOR APRIL 12

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL and three-time and defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS remain on top of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East and West Region point standing respectively after Week 2 competition.

Edge drove the Edge’s Gas Company Mastersbilt to his first win of the season on Saturday night at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, and also had a second-place finish on Friday night at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL. After four starts, Edge has one win and three runner-up finishes.

After a successful weekend of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition, Edge has a 52-point lead over Tod Darda of LaGrange, GA in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings. Darda has driven the Darda Tire GRT to two top five finishes in three starts. Edge has 177 points to Darda’s 125.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA was one of many drivers to earn 50 bonus points over the weekend by competing in a pair of NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring events. Turner is third in the East Region standings with 100 points after a win in Week 1 competition driving the Turner Excavating DWB.

Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN drove the Dale’s Auto Sales GRT to victory on Saturday night at Mountain Raceway Park in Maryville, TN, and is fourth in the East Region standings with 99 points. In two starts, Wilson has a win and a second-place finish.

Richie Stephens of Phenix City, AL and Guy Robinson of Rockmart, GA are tied for the fifth spot in the East Region standings, each with 98 points. Stephens has a win and a third-place finish driving the Bennett Logging Rocket, and Robinson has a pair of second-place finishes in the Steel N Georgia TNT.

Jake Teague of Oliver Springs, TN in the Wade’s Body Shop Bloomquist and Bobby Eiland of Phenix City, AL in the Paradise Pools GRT are tied for the seventh spot in the East Region standings with 97 points apiece.

Five drivers are tied for the ninth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS East Region standings with 95 points. They are Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL in the D&K Truck Service GRT, Mike McGee of Flomaton, AL in the McGee Welding Service Warrior, David Odom, Hunter Best of Louisville, TN in the Goddard Performance Warrior, and Kevin Maher of McDavid, FL in the United Bank GRT.

In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series East Region action over the weekend, Craig Scott took the win on Friday night at Penton Raceway, and Taylor Jarvis of Milton, FL picked up the victory on Saturday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL in the Jarvis Racing Trak-Star.

Josh Noles of LaGrange, GA in the Noles Racing TNT was declared the winner at New Senoia Raceway in Senoia, GA on Saturday night after the car of apparent winner Craig Scott was disqualified for an outside the sealing bolts engine violation.

Billy Franklin of Calera, AL took his second straight win at Shelby County Speedway in Wilsonville, AL on Saturday night, and Kevin Henderson of Cottondale, AL drove the Century Carriers, Inc. Trak-Star to victory on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Keeton had a top five and top ten finish in two starts over weekend to bring his NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region point total after four starts up to 185 points. Keeton holds a 54-point lead over Jamey Smith of Lumberton, MS, who has 131 points in three starts. Michael Williams has 125 points in three starts to hold down the third spot.

Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS picked up 25 bonus points by competing in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring race on Friday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and is currently fourth in the WRS West Region points with 115 points. Unfortunately, Arnold was injured in a highway accident while traveling home Saturday morning, and will be out of action for several weeks.

According to reports, Arnold, the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Runner-Up, allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, and his vehicle hit the end of a steel guardrail. Arnold was thrown from the vehicle and suffered multiple compound fractures to his right arm, a punctured lung, and several bad lacerations.

Arnold had successful surgery on Saturday morning, and is expected to make a full recovery. The thoughts and prayers of the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series family of officials and competitors are with Arnold during his recovery.

Justin McRee of Cuba, AL is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region standings with 100 points after a win in Week 1 action, and 50 bonus points by competing in the two National Touring events over the weekend in the Century Carriers, Inc. Trak-Star. Cliff Williams of Star, MS is sixth with 99 points driving the Ware Construction Trak-Star.

The 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS took the win on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, and is tied for seventh in the West Region standings with Shannon Lee of Lumberton, Ms in the Billy Riels Racing GRT. Both drivers have 98 points.

Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS in the Bo Haarala Autoplex GRT and Alan Netherland are tied for the ninth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region standings with 95 points.
In other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region action over the weekend, Jared Landers topped a 16-car field on Friday night to take the win at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR. Owen Stockstill of Purvis, MS drove the Stockstill Trucking Trak-Star to victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park in Hattiesburg, MS.

Chris Ragan of Ramer, TN picked up the win on Friday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL driving the Southeastern Ag Transport Trak-Star. In other Saturday night NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region competition, Wesley Green was the winner at Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, MS.
