MISSISSIPPI DOUBLE HEADER THIS WEEKEND FOR THE NeSMITH CHEVROLET DLMS

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will return to action after a six-week hiatus with the $2,000-to-win Wilkerson Diesel Tire Service “Rumble On The Gumbo” 40 this Friday night at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and Jackson Motor Speedway hosts the $2,500-to-win Spring Nationals 50 presented by M&E Oil Services, Scarbrough Homes, and Permanent Exterior Solutions on Saturday night.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point standings by two points over the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS coming into this weekend’s events. Turner and Cooley will be looking to repeat a spectacular finish that took place last year at Greenville Speedway.

In one of the closest finishes in NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS history, Turner and Cooley, along with Ben McCreary and Derrick Rainey, came off Greenville Speedway’s turn four for the checkered flag last year four-wide. The lead changed hands several times in the last five laps of the race, and Turner picked up his first career NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring victory.

Adding to a competitive mix this season are several new challengers, including a pair of Cuba, AL drivers, Justin McRee and seven-time Mississippi State Late Model Champion Mike Boland. McRee is currently third in the National points chase, just 32 points out of the point lead. McRee finished tenth in last year’s point standings with two wins.

Even though he usually runs a limited NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National schedule, Boland took the ninth spot in the National standings last season with three wins. Boland is the defending champion of the Jackson Motor Speedway Spring Nationals 50 for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS.

“Iron Mike” ranks fourth in NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National career wins with six victories, fourth in career fast time awards with three, and third in total career laps led with 285. Boland also has over $32,000 banked in NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour career earnings. Both McRee and Boland will at Greenville Speedway in Friday night, and Jackson Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Other Magnolia State veterans scheduled to run both shows are “Dr. Dirt” Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, Chris McElhenney of Lake, MS, defending Jackson Motor Speedway NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model Champion Cliff Williams of Star, MS and Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS.

“Chargin” Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL leads the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year point standings, and is fourth overall in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring points. Henderson trails his teammate McRee for the third spot by just four points.

Henderson leads an impressive list of VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year candidates on the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Tour that include Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS, Larry Harrod of Plains, GA, Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, Frank Wilson of Harold, FL, Jay Burchfield of Columbus, MS, Troy Dixon of Temple, GA, Paul Walters of Valley, AL, and Mark Tice of Avon, MS.

Also expected this Friday night at Greenville Speedway for the Wilkerson Diesel Tire Service “Rumble On The Gumbo” 40 and on Saturday night at Jackson Motor Speedway for the Spring National 50 presented by M&E Oil Services, Scarbrough Homes, and Permanent Exterior Solutions are many drivers from the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks that will be looking for Regional bonus points.

Drivers that compete weekly at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks can earn 25 Regional bonus points for each NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Touring event in up to six events. The Regional bonus points are added to the driver’s best 16 point nights that count towards their Regional point total for the season.

At each event this weekend, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring cars and stars will compete in Time Trials, Heat Races, and the Main Event.

On Friday night at Greenville Speedway, the pit gate opens at 3 p.m. which begins Registration and Tech that runs until the Driver’s Meeting that is set for 6:45 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. followed by racing action.

On Saturday, the pit gate at Jackson Motor Speedway opens at 3 p.m. at which time Registration and Tech opens and runs until the start of the Driver’s Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. with racing set for 7 p.m.
