Chad Thrash Hard Charges To 2nd In Columbus Barn-Burner

Meridian, Mississippi (03/18/10) – The evening may have gotten off to a slow start for Chad Thrash in his #1c Tomkat of Chunky/Rocket/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model, but by the time the dust settled on the Bullring Bash at Columbus Speedway on Saturday, he had a big smile on his face.

Thrash Motorsports originally planned to travel to Cleveland Speedway (Cleveland, Tennessee) on Saturday night for the $10,000 to win Southern All Star event, but inclement weather forced the cancellation of the event. As a result, the team made the last minute decision to invade Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi for the $2,000 to win, P.R.O. Super Late Model Series event. Thirty-eight Super Late Models entered the event, and early in the night, Thrash got behind the eight ball by struggling in time trials. After qualifying seventh fastest in his group, he started fifth in a qualifier. He finished 4th in the qualifier, which gave him the 16th starting spot for the 40 lap feature.

For the feature event, Thrash Motorsports would make several adjustments on the car, and the end result was an incredible march through the field. As the main event got underway, Thrash began working the lowside, and slowly began picking off spots. By the time that a caution flew at the race's midway point, Chad sat in the 11th position. The next ten laps of the feature would see Thrash beginning to make a lot of noise as he cracked the top five by lap 29, and four laps later he would move past Anthony Burroughs for the second spot as he set his sights on the leader, Chris Wall. However, with only seven laps remaining, and Wall holding a straight away lead, Chad would not be able to catch the leader before the checkered flag fell. He would go on to record a great second place finish behind event winner, Chris Wall.

“If I can ever figure out how to qualify at that place, we are going to be in business. We got behind the eight-ball early in the night, but the team never gave up. I don’t think we were any better than Wall, but I would’ve loved to have seen a late race caution to take a shot,” commented Thrash.

Chad will take the upcoming weekend off from racing before returning to action on Saturday, March 27th in the $2,500 to win, Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) event at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi.
