Late Model Disappointment for Blight Debut at Margaret River Speedway

MARGARET RIVER, W.A.—The south west mining town of Collie was host to the powerful Late Models for the inaugural Coal Miner 35; this meeting would see Kye Blight race the second Brad Blake machine for just the second time.

In his debut down in Margaret River Kye would start the feature from the rear and would work his way to fourth before the car ran into trouble. Heading to the tight track the Blight Racing Team were looking to not only finish the feature but improve on the first outing.

As the team prepared the car it looked like Mother Nature would be the winner as the skies opened up just before hot laps pushing them back by an hour, but once it stopped the Collie track crew worked hard and provided a superb race surface.

The tight track would make it hard to pass with great battles throughout the field, during the heats Kye would start eighth and climb his way to third and then start second only to record a DNF when a set of wheel nuts came loose.

“The car was simply perfect, the team has done an excellent job” said Kye going into the feature.

Due to the DNF in his heat Blight had the lowest points and would have to start at the rear, but as he showed in his heats he could move through the field.

With the track becoming a bit slick Kye would look after the tyres and passed cars when the opportunity arose. With around fifteen left to run the future star was sitting in fifth and was looking at a good result until the tail shaft broke leaving Kye with nothing to do but pull infield.

After the event the current production state champion reflected on his two Late Model outings saying “it would have been good to finish and maybe on the podium, but that’s how racing goes”.

Kye and the team would like to thank Brad Blake for this opportunity and they look forward to when they can race Late Models on a full time basis.
