....Heavy Hitters Return to Historic Half-Mile Waycross Motor Speedway in Huge Stock Car Weekend During Okefenokee SpeedFest

(March 9, 2009) WAYCROSS, GEORGIA The ground will tremble in South Georgia during the weekend of May 7-8 as Waycross Motor Speedway plays hosts to one of the biggest stock car racing events in the 50 plus year history of the famed half-mile oval located at the edge of the vast Okefenokee Swamp. Some of the biggest guns in the Amercian short track industry will be in the mix battling for the lucrative purses which will feature Super Late Models, while also hosting competitors in late model sportsman, crate late model and other supporting divisions as part of the big money racing weekend.

The event will mark the first Super Late Model racing weekend in nearly ten years on the lightning fast dirt track which has a long history dating back to the turn of the 1960's when the big half-mile racing oval saw legendary battles involving some of the sports' toughest competitors at the time. The upcoming May 7-8 weekend will reignite those glory days as 850 horsepowered super late models make their return to the new look Waycross Motor Speedway which has recently been reconstructed with a Georgia red clay surface.

Complete event details will be posted on the official web site of Waycross Motor Speedway, with the race week's schedule, ticket and competitor information made available prior to March 15th at www.wayxspeedway.com and published on numerous racing related and media internet sites. The information released later this week will also provide a list of confirmed competitors scheduled to be in Waycross, Geogia for the May 7th & 8th weekend; some of the heaviest hitters in American short track racing have already commited to the event and their names will be made public in a formal announcement this coming Friday.

The excitement level in the south Georgia and north Florida region about the newly configured Waycross Motor Speedway exploded this past weekend when Tallahassee, Florida young gun Tyler Ivey took a victory in a limited late model event which hosted 37 entries to go with a strong field of cars in all divisions in front of a huge crowd. Ivey piloted his Crowder Trucking / Wolf-Pack Racing machine to a $3,000 win. Two months from now when the Super late models make their first return in a decade to the track located in downtown, Waycross, Georgia is set to welcome race fans and teams for the upcoming May 7-8 week of racing and has the region's racing community abuzz about the event.
