Ray Cook Takes Lucas Oil Series Checkers at Bulls Gap for Second Win of Season!

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA)  Ray Cook was back on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series trail over the March 6-7 weekend in the states of Tennessee and South Carolina.  On Saturday night, the ultra-fast Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee played host to the annual running of the 'Spring Thaw' event.  Ray ran second in heat race action, which earned him the fifth starting spot for the 60-lap A-Main.  The Brasstown, North Carolina native worked his way to the front of the stout field and passed race leader Chris Madden for the point in lapped traffic on lap thirty-six.  Ray kept everyone behind his #53 machine for the rest of the race and took home the $10,000 payday over Chris Madden, Skip Arp, Dan Schlieper, and Steve Casebolt.

The dirt-slinging action quickly turned to the historic Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina on Sunday afternoon for another $10,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series show.  It was a trying day for the D&R Motorsports team, as they were forced to take a series provisional to gain access into the 50-lap main event.  After starting twenty-fourth on the grid, Ray was involved in a first lap incident and retired in the twenty-fifth position.  The driver known as the "Tarheel Tiger" currently finds himself tied for fourth in the latest LOLMDS point standings following the doubleheader weekend.  You can view complete results online at www.lucasdirt.com.

"The win at Bulls Gap on Saturday night was a very special one for our entire team," quoted Cook today via telephone.  "It was not only my first career win at Volunteer Speedway, but it was also the first victory for my car owners there as well.  I figured with the great drivers that have run for D&R Motorsports in the past that they would have already reached victory lane at Bulls Gap, so that made it extra special for all of us.  It has been a great start to the season and I can't thank everyone associated with our team enough for all of their help and support!"

Weather pending, the #53 team has circled a pair of Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series (SAS) events to attend this upcoming weekend.  The Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia will start things off on Friday night, March 12 with a $4,000 to win show.  The doubleheader weekend will conclude on Saturday evening, March 13 with the annual running of the 'Shamrock' at the storied Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee.  Boasting a larger purse this year, a $10,000 top prize is on the line Saturday at the southern Tennessee venue.  You can access additional information concerning both of these races by pointing your web browser to www.southernallstarsracingseries.com.
