Anthony Sanders Picks Up Cherokee Win – Headed for Modoc 100

Spartanburg, South Carolina – Anthony Sanders and his Hamrick’s of Gaffney race team picked up their first win of the very young 2010 season this past Sunday at the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. Sanders, driving his Hamrick’s of Gaffney MasterSbilt, scored the win in his first outing of the year. While the event was just a weekly show it featured some of the area’s toughest City Chevrolet GM Performance Late Model competition. “We had a very good race car Sunday. It was good right off of the trailer.” Sanders said.

Sanders grabbed the win in his heat race from the outside pole position, beating Adam Yarborough to the first turn and never looking back. Sanders picked up right where he left off in the feature taking the lead on the initial start and then leading every lap to take the checkers. Dennis “Rambo” Franklin, Michael Martin, Yarborough and Zach Mitchell followed Sanders to the line. Sanders threw down the proverbial gauntlet in his winner’s circle interview. “We plan to do this a whole lot more this year. Everyone is going to see the back of this car a lot in 2010.”

Sanders hopes to carry his momentum in this weekend’s Fastrak sanctioned Modoc 100 at Modoc Speedway in Modoc, South Carolina. “We ran real good at Modoc last year. We set fast time and broke the track crate record at their last race. And we finished with a top five. The car got real tight as the track changed but I think we are prepared for that this time around so I believe we have a good shot at having a good run.” The 100-lap feature event will pay $10,000 to the winner. City Chevrolet of Charlotte, North Carolina is also putting up $500 for the fastest qualifier.

The Modoc 100 is scheduled for Friday, March 5th and Saturday, March 6th, with qualifying and heat races set for Friday night and B-Mains and feature scheduled for Saturday.
