Chris Ferguson Collects Top 10 in Bama – Lucas Oil March Madness Up NextMt. Holly, North Carolina – Chris Ferguson and his Starrette Trucking and Specialized Hauling race team made the six-hour trek to Gadsden, Alabama’s Green Valley Speedway for the 13th Annual Bama Bash this past weekend. The Southern Regional Racing Series sanctioned event paid $10,000 to win and drew a stellar field of 54 cars. Ferguson qualified seventh overall however SRRS utilizes a group qualifying format. This format placed Ferguson starting fourth in a heat race that was loaded with heavy hitters including defending event winner (and eventual back to back) winner Ray Cook, SRRS Champion Jay Brinkley, Louisiana standout Chris Wall and three time Southern All Stars East champion Casey Roberts among others.
Ferguson fell to sixth and finished out of a transfer spot in his heat. “We missed the set-up a little and made the wrong changes after qualifying. This was my first time here in a super late model and the first time I had ever drove this particular car. It has a different steering rack and the steering was a lot slower than what I am used to.” Ferguson stated. By virtue of his great qualifying time, Ferguson was tapped for a fast time provisional and started 16th on the grid. Ferguson progressed forward racing door to door with the likes if Jonathan Davenport, Clint Smith and Ronny Lee Hollingsworth. At the end of the day Ferguson scored his second top ten finish of the very young season. “It was a good run and quite a learning experience. We got in some laps against very strong competition. We are building this team. As long as we can keep running like this and keep working hard we are going to win our share of races. I am excited about the rest of the season.”
Ferguson will now turn his attention to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. Sunday’s March Madness VIII will pay $10,000 to win. “I am very excited about the Lucas Oil race this weekend. We had originally planned to run Bulls Gap on Saturday night but we are putting together our brand new Rocket Chassis and we just won’t be able to get it ready in time. We have been to Bulls Gap in our crate car and it is a very fast and racy track. So I hate we will miss it. But obviously we feel pretty good about our chances at Cherokee. It would be great to go to our backyard and pick up a big win. A lot of our sponsors will be there and that is where my biggest fan base is so it would be very cool to win that race. We are going to put our best effort out and see where we end up. It should be exciting.” Ferguson added.
Ferguson is also very pleased to announce the addition of K&N Filters as a new product sponsor for 2010. K&N Filters of Riverside, California, has sold more than 30 million washable / reusable performance high-flow air filters since 1969. K&N is billed as the “World’s Greatest Air Filter” for a reason. “K&N just came on board in the last couple of days and we couldn’t be more proud of being able to represent them. K&N has been involved with dirt late model racing for a very long time. K&N Filters just have so much history behind them. And I guarantee that probably 95% of all the dirt late model racers at a given event have a K&N Filter on their race car. We have used them my entire career and they are unmatched in reliability. It really is an honor to have them join our team.” Ferguson said. You can learn more about K&N Filters and their applications for racing and for your car by visiting
