Riley Hickman Records Emotional Michael Head Jr. Memorial Win

by Ben Shelton
CLEVELAND, Tennessee (07/28/15) – Riley Hickman recorded an emotional victory behind the wheel of his Hickman Manufacturing #1V CVR Super Late Model on Saturday night in the annual Michael Head Jr. Memorial.

“This is a race that I’ve always wanted to win,” said Hickman. “Mike (Head) and his entire family are great people, and this race is a great salute to their late son. This victory truly means a lot.”

On Saturday night Riley Hickman returned to competition with the Southern All Star (SAS) series, traveling to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) for the Michael Head Jr. Memorial Race. In a field of twenty-five Super Late Models, Riley captured his first SAS victory of the season, bagging a $4,000 payday. Hickman streaked to the lead on the first lap and never looked back. Outdueling Randy Weaver throughout the remainder of the feature event, honoring the late son of Mike Head, Hickman registered his eleventh win of the season with Weaver, Jason Hiett, Tom Maddox and Eric Cooley rounding out the top five.

Riley visited Lavonia Speedway (Lavonia, Georgia) on Friday, competing in a Southeastern Late Model Sportsman Series Eevent. Recording the fastest time in a field of 15 cars, Hickman logged the pole position starting spot for the feature event. Battling with David McCoy for the lead, Hickman registered a runner-up finish behind McCoy with Stephen Segars, Billy Rushton, and Brent Russell completing the top five.

Riley remains in first place in the latest SAS series standings. Complete results from both weekend events can be found at www.LavoniaSpeedway.net and www.SasDirt.com .

This week will hold three events for Hickman. On Tuesday evening he will compete in a $4,000-to-win event with the Southern Nationals Late Model Series Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia). Friday evening will tentatively take the team to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) for a $6,000-to-win program with the Southern Nationals. The weekend is slated to draw to a close on Saturday evening at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) with a Southern All Star Super Late Model program.
