MOOREHOUSE MASTERS RENEGADE MODS; BLAIR BLASTS TO RUSH LM WIN; PATTERSON WINS 1st EVER SPRINT FEATURE AT WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY

by Mike Swanger
ORRVILLE, OH (July 4) - The pits were overflowing with race cars for the 4th of July race night with the Renegades of Dirt Modifieds in for a $3,000 to win feature. Rich Michael Jr. would lead the way for the opening 5 laps before giving way to Jake Hawkins as 7th starting Kevin Morehouse would move into third on lap six. Morehouse would slide into second on lap ten and start to track down Hawkins as he had built up almost a half straight away lead. Using the low groove in turns one and two, Morehouse and his Sam’s Cars, The Hang Out and CW Concrete #28, would be able to stick his front end beside Hawkin’s machine and finally with six laps to go powered past for the lead coming out of turn two and the Newark driver would pull away for the win. Dan Davies would finish third with Michaels fourth. DJ Cline started 15th and drove to a fifth place finish. Hawkins, Nathan Loney, Michaels and Chris Arnold scored the heat wins as Cody Parker and Travis Dickson topped the last chance races.

Eric Wilson took his pole starting position to lead the opening three laps when Charlie Duncan went zipping past in the Sweeney Rush Late Model main. Tenth starting Max Blair worked his way past Wilson on lap 5 and closed in on Duncan. With a couple of cautions in the next three laps and double file restarts, Duncan was able to hold to hold off Blair until lap 14 when the Centerville Pa. driver and his R&J Poultry, Moody & Sons Welding and C & J Dairy #111 would overtake Duncan coming out of turn two. Damian Bidwell moved into second with four laps to go and when a caution came out with one lap to go, he was looking to steal the win away from Blair for the second time at WCS, doing that back on June 22. But on the restart, both Bidwell and Duncan got loose and Justin Chance slipped past both for second with Bidwell and Duncan holding on to third and fourth as Jason Knowles rounded out the top five. Winning the heat races were Bidwell, John Waters and Alan Dillinger.

The Fisher Performance Sprint feature would be a two car duel between Mitch Harble and Nick Patterson as Harble would run the low line to perfection for the first 16 circuits as Patterson would high rail around the racing surface during the same period of time. Heat winner Patterson, of Millersburg, and his RAM USA, D & N Leasing and Walton Graphics #23 finally wrestled the lead away from Harble on lap 17 and hold him off the last three laps to post his first ever win. Shawn Hubler outlasted Jamie Myers for third as Clay Riney finished fifth.

A pair of #27’s would lead the first dozen laps of the Aamco Transmission Super Stock feature as Don Baney set the pace for the first three laps before Brandon Gardner would take over. Gardner’s night would end abruptly on lap 12 when the drive shaft exited the #27g, putting points leader Nick Smith into the lead with Larry Baldwin on his tail on the restart. On the last lap, Baldwin would overpower Smith in turns one and two to take the point and hustle around to the checker flag to park the Randolph based, Aamco Transmissions, Excalibur Body Shop and Park Ford #7up in victory lane for the second time this season. Baney, Tyler Thompson and Gary Hensel Jr. filled out the top five. Baldwin and Chase Alexander topped the heats.

Blowing his engine in the make up feature from last week that was won by Brad Hensel, Doug Hensel of Wooster borrowed a car for the rest of the night and lead all the way for his fourth WQKT Mini Stock win of the season. Jason St. John never gave Hensel any breathing room but settled for second as Gary Hensel ran third followed by Brad Hensel and Kevin Markey. Brad Hensel and Michael Rose won the heat races. In the make up feature, Gary Hensel Jr followed Brad Hensel with Mitch Reichard third with Wes Staley taking fourth as fifth went to Rick Bays.

Reese Bollinger took the lead with 2 laps to go from Braxton Wilson to capture his first Mini Wedge feature as Donnie Danley edged past Wilson on the last lap for second with Matthew Moore and Jolene Voshel grabbing top five finishes. Wilson and Billy Dawson won the heats.

Scott Delaney held off Jamie Johnson to pocket his third Flat Track Kart feature of the season. Steve Reed passed Johnson for second on the last lap with heat winner Brandon Gardner and Ryan Pearson rounding out the top five.

Next Saturday night, Wayne County Speedway will celebrate it’s 50th birthday with a many prizes to be given away and games to be played including a Hot Dog eating contest and Race Car Bingo plus a 50 pound Birthday Cake!!  Make sure to come early!!  The action on the track will be Mid Season championships with double points for all the regular class’ of cars.
