Jimmy Mars Charges to Fourth in Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals

MENOMONIE, WISC (October 3) - Mars Racing rolled into the hallowed grounds of Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa on September 25-27 for the 11th Annual 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.'  The three-day crown jewel spectacular kicked off with a pair of $7,000 to win programs at the 1/2-mile Marion County fairgrounds speedplant.  On Thursday night, Jimmy Mars qualified well in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series time trials, but unfortunately was involved in a heat race incident, which caused him to scratch for the remainder of the evening.  At Knoxville on Friday, Jimmy rebounded to finish fourth in his heat race, sixth in the B-Main, and nineteenth in the 25-lap preliminary main event.

By virtue of his strong point total on Friday, Jimmy locked himself into the outside of the ninth row for the start of Saturday's 'Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals,' which once again boasted a hefty $40,000 top prize.  In front of a huge grandstand crowd and the television cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios, Jimmy helped put on a terrific show in the 100-lapper.  The Menomonie, Wisconsin star worked the treacherous cushion to perfection throughout the distance and charged all the way up to third in the running order before settling for an impressive fourth place showing behind only winner Brian Birkhofer, Scott Bloomquist, and Mike Marlar.  Complete results from Knoxville Raceway can be accessed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Jimmy and his #28 team had planned on attending the annual running of the 'Viking Fall Classic' at Viking Speedway in Alexandria, Minnesota on October 3-4, but an inclement weather forecast for this weekend has caused the Mars Racing team to scrap those plans.  They will instead take the weekend off from racing action and contemplate when and where their next race will take place.  The latest news and schedule information concerning the "Iceman" Jimmy Mars can be found 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by logging onto www.jimmymarsracing.com.
